I am a little confused about my tracker. My tracker said that I did a cycle event at 12:07 am and then sync'd at 1 am. I was in bed by 12:30 and I did not do exercise so I don't understand why I am being tracked as having done so. Can anyone tell me what causes this or what I should do to fix it?

I think the comparisons look a little strange because you're logging cycling as your exercise, and it's trying to convert that workout into steps. So you're not actually walking all of that distance- some of it is biking converted into steps. In general, there are about 2,000 steps in a mile (assuming you are walking that whole thing.)

Yes,that's all I use. Here's the last 3 entries: 4,668 steps,234 cal,67 mins,2.2 miles
3,500 steps,231 cal,69 mins, 2.2 mles
2,941 steps,172 cal,42 mins,1.6 miles

I would have never noticed but, when I was updating my progress in the challenge I was like hey that doesn't look right for the last two entries with the miles vs steps

one of the challenges I joined has a point system. One of which is points for every mile walked. I have the activity tracker that I use to track my steps which as I understood it to track the miles. It does that. My question is how can walking 2500 steps, walking 3500 steps and walking 4600 steps all say 2.2 miles? I am on day 96 with my exercise streak. I am ready to cry thinking all this work with increasing my steps and so forth is for 2.2 miles.

I don't know much about calibrating a treadmill. Usually you shouldn't have to do that, so you might want to check the owner's manual to see if they have any additional suggestions. How long are you walking and at what speed? Does 5 miles seem accurate?

Thank you so much for your help. My daughter did enter activity by reclassifying and it made the difference.
I will contact tech support about my husband's issues he is having.
I do have another question. We recently bought a treadmill and have calibrated it according to the directions they give. When I do a workout I enter my age and weight to try and get an accurate recording of what I've done. However, the information I get after my walk compared to what my tracker says are no where close. For instance, today it said I did 5 miles. My Spark Activity Tracker said 2.78. My tracker is recording the correct amount of time I spend on the treadmill. What are your suggestions?

I would suggest your husband try wearing it in a different spot (see my suggestions below) to see if that helps record his workouts more accurately.

I actually have a couple questions. My husband, daughter & I each have a Spark Activity Tracker. Mine seems to be logging in everything correctly but the other two struggle.
First, my husband sometimes has to toggle back & forth between either days or trackers to get his workout calories and minutes to register. He walks 50 continuous minutes on the treadmill so we know he's got them. Any suggestions other than what he's doing to get things to register?
My second question is in regards to my daughters. She will do a 3 mile walking video, and then checks her progress and there isn't anything in the top charts for workout calories or minutes - always says zero. If she scrolls down on that Spark Activity Tracker page, under workout the information is there. Suggestions?

Yes, I reclassified it on my page... the fact it doesn't communicate back to the tracker COMPLETELY makes sense to me!

Did you reclassify any workout for today? If so, that will be reflected on your tracker page on SP, but it doesn't communicate back to the device.

I have a question.

I have set a goal of 6000 steps per day, and my Spark Activity Tracker is supposed to light up fully when I meet that goal.

As of this minute I have about 6100 steps logged on my start page, however when I tap the device (located on my shoe), it only lights up 2 lights.

Does the tracker distinguish regular steps vs. workout steps? The majority of these steps are from a 40 minute step routine I just did.

If it's not recording your steps correctly, you might try wearing the device in a different spot. Here are some tips:

- If you wear on your shoe, make sure it is flat on your laces and parallel to ground with the open end of the clip pointing towards the toe. Also make sure it is firmly clipped and not flopping around - we find its best to try to get it through at least 2-3 laces (which really snugs it down).
-If wearing on your bra, try with clip to the skin and the tracker to the outside. If that doesnâ€™t work, try wearing it on the cross strap (not the shoulder strap) towards the side of the body near the underarm. We have seen this give better results for some body types as it helps to hold the tracker securely to the body. But we would still recommend trying it on the shoe or waist first if possible.
- If you wear on your waist, make sure the open end of the clip is pointing towards the ground. Also try to wear as close the outside of your hip as possible.

I was so excited about walking around at Costco for over an hour and then Walmart for about 40 minutes. I was sure I would really have a lot of steps on my tracker. Some how it did not register most of them. I was really bummed.

I find it is a great motivator. I get home from work (dept store) and am sometimes shocked at how much walking I really do at work. I know it is not fitness walking but at least I am moving!! And losing. :-)

I bought a second tracker because I thought I'd lost the first. I chose to keep it even after I found the original because I wanted the matte black for use at work. I haven't set up the new one yet and I'm wondering if both will track on my Spark page. I'd only wear one at a time, but I was wondering if they're interchangeable?

To disconnect:
- Go to the main Spark page
- Click to "Disconnect Your Spark" at the bottom of the page

This will remove the links from your Start page and Fitness Tracker page. It will keep your past workouts on your Fitness Tracker, but you will lose all your other data.

I've had one since the first week of October, and it was addictive. I enjoyed the daily challenge to take a few extra steps, and light the tracker up. However, after 2 months the syncpoint failed. Sparkpeople very promptly and kindly replaced the failed syncpoint dongle. The new one lasted 4 days, and failed. Now it is discouraging to log onto sparkpeople, and have the tracker data of 0 steps staring me in the face. I wish I could get it off my start page. I've told all my friends what a wonderful too the activity tracker was, now I'll have to shop for something else. Has anyone else had this problem?

The tracker will hold up to 2 weeks worth of data, so even if you can't sync it daily, you won't lose that information.

Hi all! I have just discovered the Spark tracker and it sounds awesome. I think I am going to buy myself one. Can somone please tell me if the computer has to be ON for it to sync when you get within 50 feet of it? Suppose the computer is off, but as soon as I turn it on, will it sync all of the activity I have had up to the point of turning the computer on? Does it need to sync at least once daily? My home computer doesn't stay on all the time, so that is my main concern.

The steps are counted, but those 3 minutes wouldn't be classified as a workout "event" in your tracker.

So if I work for 20 minutes at my desk, and then walk up and down my stairs 10 times in 3 minutes and then go back to my desk, those steps aren't counted on my SpAT?

I've been soooo disappointed by my steps each day. This might be why.

I have been using the tracker for 5 days. I absolutely love it. My question is in regards to the calories burned. I am 66 years old and weigh 136lbs.. When I do my 2 mile walk in about 42 min it shows I have burned 440 calories. Does that sound high to anyone else? Also it is showing I'm burning approximately 1000 calories a day. Is that only for the 10,600 steps(which includes the actual workout steps) or is that for the whole 24 hour period of living and breathing.
When I'm walking outdoors can the tracker tell when I'm going up steep hills?

Does anybody know how long the Spark will retain data? My Spark is synced to my desktop at home as my laptop does not meet the functioning ability to have it synced there. I am going out of town for a few days with my Spark and I am wondering if when I get home it will still sync my information for each day I was gone?

Hi! I've had the spark tracker for almost two weeks and I love it! The only probelm: Today for example, I logged almost 7,000 steps. My goal is set to reach 6,000 steps and then when I tap the tracker it's supposed to light up all the way when I meet my goal. It lit up once last week all the way when I reached my goal over 6,000, but today it won't light up all the way and I have reached my goal. Not sure what to do.

Are you reclassifying workouts on your tracker? If so, those changes are not reflected on the Spark, which is why you might be seeing a lower number of lights even though you've reached your goal for the day.

Please check to make sure the SparkPeople Connect application is running by locating it in the System Tray on your computer, which is located in the bottom right corner of your screen near the date and time. You may need to click the arrow in that area to view all programs in your System Tray. If you are a Mac user, you can look for the SparkPeople Connect application in your dock near the bottom of your screen.

If the SparkPeople Connect application is installed and running, please check the 3 status indicators on the SyncPoint page and let us know what colors are listed next to each one.

Hi , I bought the SPAT a week ago ,for the first 2 days the green light was on then it disappeared on the USB ,it still sync well so i did not return it ,(the first one I got the USB was defective)My question is why the lights on the SA missing one circle light that never turns up even if i reached my step goal?the other question is : Is my USB defective since the green light is off?

One thing that's nice is that the Spark will automatically upload your workouts into your fitness tracker. I don't think it matters how active you are- it's really a personal decision of whether or not you think something like this would help motivate you to help reach your goals. I'd like some feedback about whether or not I'd benefit from using the SP activity tracker. I am 70 years old and severely arthritic.My exercise consists of about 500-750 bounces on a rebounder (that's all I can do) plus 10-15 minutes of the SP chair-dancing routine or exercise similar to the chair exercise routine. Obviously, chair exercise doesn't register on a pedometer, so I add activity manually for that. I cannot go for extended walks, but have worn a pedometer for about seven years just to challenge myself to move as much as I can manage throughout the day.

Would the activity tracker benefit me...or is it designed for someone who is more active than I am?

Yes, if it's not listed in your fitness tracker as workout minutes, you'll still have to put those in. I'm not aware of any plans to change that, but I will pass along your feedback.

As far as I know, it shouldn't interfere with any other devices.

M,

When you sync your Spark, you can reclassify any of the activities. (For example, if it calls something walking but you were actually biking.) But you can't divide up those activity minutes into different things. It's all or none.

Hi,

Is there any way to break up the total minutes into 'workout' minutes and 'other' minutes? I might get 20-40 minutes of aerobic exercise a day, plus weights, plus just doing my daily stuff, and I'd like to say "ok, today was 20 minutes of workout minutes plus 25 minutes walking around" plus adding my weights to the tracker on my own.

Am I missing something?

The tracker only registers exercise that's at least 10 continuous minutes. So if you do a lot of stopping and starting when you're walking, it will reset and that's probably where the steps difference is coming from.

Anna,

You shouldn't need to open the battery when you get it. There's one already in it, and it should last 6-12 months before you need to replace it.

I am having so much trouble with just trying to get the SPARK open so I could put the battery in it. HELP!! This is not an easy device to open, unless I am doing it wrong...... I trying to turn it counterclockwise like it says and it barely budges.

Also, will this SPARK activity tracker mess up any other devices I have on, for instance, like a heart rate monitor?

Tracker on Shoe differs in steps than when on bra. I started out wearing my activity tracker on my bra because it was more discreet, but when activity was uploaded I only had about a 1000 steps, when in any given 8 hour work day, I get anywhere from 4000 to 6000 steps, based on the fitbit zip and flex I had before this.
I wore it on my shoe today, for a 6 hour work day and got a little over 3000 steps.
So does it work more like a pedometer which tracks steps and not activity which tracks movement?

I guess it depends how strenuous the walk was. If you feel the push mower entry is more accurate, then you can adjust the entry in your tracker.

I just mowed the lawn without the EZ walk, so I pushed the entire time. My Spark recognized this as a 35 minutes walking event (Awesome!) It awarded me workout time 35 minutes and 76 calories burned; however, If I log mowing push in my activity tracker for 35 minutes (that's what I used to do), I burned a lot more calories.
How do you suggest logging things like that? I don't want to cheat myself by going with the more calories that mowing push said I burned if I actually didn't burn that much, but I am sure I burned more than the 76 calories that my tracker calculated.

To your first question, we are not selling USB dongles on their own. If we see a lot of demand for this in the future, we'll look to add this ability.

We will have a mobile phone app later in October where you can view your Spark data. Note however you still need to sync through your computer and USB dongle first.

A couple of quick questions. Is it possible to get an additional USB dongle? Since it won't sync with an app on my iPhone (which would make this great, BTW), I'd like to be able to check my progress at work and at home without having to take the dongle with me everywhere I go.

Any chance there will be an app for my phone that this tracker will be able to sync with?
