Fluctuating blood sugar can cause headaches, so balance your sugar levels by eating a carb and a protein. Add vinegar to your daily diet as it helps balance blood sugar.

Foods most likely to trigger headaches and migraines include wheat, milk, cheese, chocolate, coffee, sugar, peanuts, pork, nitrites/nitrates ( lunch meats and hot dogs) and MSG, sugar. Also a high fat diet can trigger a migraine

Eat turkey, tuna and add seasame seeds to salads and veggies daily to reduce headaches....they have magnesium to help headaches. Also your body might be inflammed...add rosemary both help prevent or lessen headaches. Ginger root has anti-inflammatory qualities that help your body reduce the inflammation and swelling that can lead to headaches.

I have type II diabetes and I love Giant Dakota Ranch sunflower seeds I can eat a package a day. I know the sodium is bad I try to drink a lot of water which does not resolve the issue that they are high in sodium. I for some reason thought it was better to eat the seeds than eat the chocolate candy bar.

As others have already noted, we're not doctors and therefore not qualified to make a diagnosis on your situation. Headaches can be caused by a lot of different things.

Can sodium cause headaches ? I've read that some people get headaches as a reaction to eating foods that are high in monosodiumglutamate aka MSG. if you ate Chinese food, many restaurants use MSG as a flavoring agent. That might be the cause of your headaches.

Were any of the foods you ate high in sugar ? Excess sugar consumption has been known to cause headaches in people.

If you have been experiencing headaches for the last couple of weeks and they don't seem to be getting any better after eliminating those processed foods you were eating, you really should talk to your doctor.

Diabetes can cause severe headaches, as well as, stress or being dehydrated and high blood pressure...go see your doctor.

I'm hoping that the headaches go pretty soon, or at least reduce a lot. I know what it is like, but as Coach Nancy has said, there are many causes - you are best to check with your Dr.

It wouldn't hurt to keep a diary of what you do (exercise, stress, smells as in chemical re allergy; and what you eat, and also include the headache factor. I found it very helpful to actually NOTE where the headache is - i.e. top of the head; to the right side; to the left; behind the eye, lower back of head. Take the diary with you. I kept a spreadsheet for that because it was the easiest way to cross-reference. That will help the Dr to figure the cause and type.

Good luck,

Hi Lisa,

You may want to contact your doctor just to make sure there is not a medical reason as to why your are having headaches. Unfortunately, headache causes vary widely and while our members and experts can offer general advice when it comes to medical issues, we should not be a substitute for the advice your doctor can provide.

I hope you feel better soon.

Sodium can cause an increase in blood pressure which in turn causes headaches. I would try to cut back on it, drink a little more water and watch your caffeine intake. Good luck!

I have a question. I was doing really good with my diet up until the last couple of weeks. I've been eating a lot more high sodium, processed foods whereas before I was eating very very little of these foods. Does increased sodium level cause headaches? I've been having these horrible headaches I cannot get rid of with anything! The only thing I can think of is the fact that my sodium intake has been out of control!
