I like to drink plain seltzer. If I want flavor, I add a lemon or lime wedge.

I drink Canada Dry Sparkling Seltzer. The only ingredients are carbonated water and natural flavorings. There are no sweeteners. Artificial or natural. I know it is not as good as plain water because there are small amounts of sodium in it but not as bad as diet soda with a million chemicals.
This is their website. It can tell you which stores carry it. It's not cheap, BUT I've found it on sale 1/2 price (It's usually $4 for a 12 pack) at both Kroger and Whole Foods at different times. Every time it goes on sale, I stock up. There may be cheaper brands of flavored water, I'm just not sure.
I also drink the clear american water from wal mart one large bottle after my walk every morning, I put it in the freezer just before I leave, go for a 3- 5 mile walk and when I get home it almost frozen, the rest of the day I drink regular water. I live in Florida and the icy cold flavored water takes the place of the Diet Coke I used to drink I don't think its as good as water but not any worse then soda and if I try to quit everything not good for me at once I know I will stop trying to lose weight.

What you described does sound like a diet soda for all intents and purposes-similar ingredients.
Lately, I've really gotten into La Croix flavoured sparkling water (I've seen it at Kroger, HEB and Whole Foods) which doesn't have any sweeteners. I also really like plain sparkling water with just a little wedge of lime for flavour. It might take awhile to get used to, but it grows on you. Back in 2007 I gave up all diet soda cold turkey and now maybe have 3 a year (I used to have about 3 a day!)
It's an artificially sweetened, probably artificially flavored drink. It *contains* water and you can definitely count it as such in terms of hydration, but it's not *just* water (which is probably why they call it a "water beverage" on the package). Soda contains water, too. In terms of calories, sure, it's better than Coke, but it's basically a diet soda since it contains carbonation and aspartame. It probably just has a little bit less than diet soda does.
If that bothers you, there are unflavored all-natural sparkling waters on the market. You can flavor them with a squirt of citrus juice or sliced fruit.
It won't negatively affect your weight loss. I drink diet soda once or twice a week and it hasn't stalled my weight loss. Some people are against artificial sweeteners in any amount, but whether or not you choose to use them is entirely up to you. Just keep in mind that the maximum recommended daily intake of artificially sweetened drinks is 32oz.

Ok, I am one of those types that loves my soda. And I DO NOT do the whole diet soda thing. Yuck and double yuck! :-) So lately I've started drinking the "Flavored Sparkling Water Beverage" from Walmart called Clear American. It has aspartame in it but no sugar, sodium, carbs, fat, or calories; and it satisfies my desire for a Coke.
My question is, is this a good alternative to soda? It is water, but somehow I'm doubting the wisdom of the choice. Any thoughts?
