I stopped drinking Diet Pepsi about 4 years ago due to the fact the Aspertame was giving me night sweats during menopause. You probably think it is the menopause but when I stopped the Aspertame, the night sweats went away.
Our son drinks no pop, has no interest in it and doesn't drink juice either -- he is 10 and has always seen us drink water, milk and our morning coffee. I am thankful that he doesn't and wont have this in his life. He doesn't even ask for it and if offered always turns it down.
I think this is how parents have to go as Pop and Juice are big sources of unwanted sugar
I've had one soda in the past 4 years, I can remember exactly when and why (odd, sudden craving on Dec 30, 2010).
I drink plain seltzer and 'soda water' (which is carbonated water) quite often because it helps my stomach, though.
I love sweetened tea so I use stevia. I suppose it would be best if I drank it unsweetened for the reasons Alorta mentions but I stay in my calorie range so I guess it will have to do for now.

I quitting drinking pop. (we call it pop in the midwest too!) My husband bought pepsi dragonfruit a few weeks ago. I was wondering what was in the pepsi to make the dragonfruit flavor. I checked the ingredients & recognized 3 ingredients: Water, high fructose corn syrup and caffeine. I have no idea what the other ingredients were. I remember thinking, "this looks like a science experiement gone wrong". Yuck.

I stopped my daily soda pop habit in October, 2009. I think I've had 6 cans since then. I think the industry is declining because of me .... LOL .... I drank so much every day. I must be healthier with just the one habit broken.
"Not even diet"? You mean ESPECIALLY not diet!!! Aspartame, I am convinced, is the devuh! Well, the devuh's handy work. Approved by the FDA because the FDA also approves the manufacturing of anti-migraine medication, and medication for heart palpitations, and cancer treatments, and all that jazz.
But yeah. I bought my very last soda a week ago. It had been almost a month since my last soda prior to that, but it gave me a SPLITTING headache-it was Diet Dr. Pepper. I got a regular pepsi while I was out shopping-when I should have gotten a water, like my wise 10.5 year old chose instead of anything else. They had chocolate milk and white milk, which I would have gladly gotten her, but she wanted a bottle of water. I drank the soda, and I had, what I am sure, was a migraine, because I had been avoiding refined sugar, including that in bread, and white flours-and it was a shock to my system. I actually broke down and took two aspirin because it hurt so bad. I try to not take NSAIDS and deal with discomfort until it passes. This was too much.
I think it is awful-but typical-that they are marketing in other countries, now.

Nice to hear! I was wondering how big cup holders were going to get over the next few years if the cups kept exponentially increasing.
I quit soda when I started my weight loss journey and now I'm not a fan of it at all. The closest I get to soda is a root beer once in awhile, or a ginger ale when I'm feeling sick. I can't remember the last time I had a soda though.

I drink almost no soda (in Canada we call it pop). In a year I probably drink 2 cases of diet gingerale - that's it.

I guess in a way, I am lucky. I have never really cared for Soda. The carbonation makes me hiccup. I honestly do prefer water - I just do not get as much as I should on a regular basis.
Good for you Laura. I did like you switched from soda to crystal light, but then couldn't understand why I was so sick. I was eating healthy, working out, but everyday I just felt like vomiting and had no energy and just felt so sick all day long.
I looked into aspartame poisoning and had like 15 of the 92 symptoms. I stopped consuming anything with aspartame and within 30 days I felt better than I had in years, so be careful with the crystal light or anything with aspartame.

diet soda might not have calories, but it makes you hungry (when you taste something sweet, your body preps for the influx of sugar by releasing insulin... and when none comes, it needs to replenish it, so it tells you it needs more... therefore, you get hungry[er]), and it's just as bad as the regular stuff for your bone health. Hell, I shudder to think what I'll have to deal with when I turn 50+ -_-; I was chugging a couple (glass) bottles a day since I was 6 or 7, and the amount went up once I grew older and hit my teens/preteens X(
I'm glad to see it's cutting back, somewhere. Lucky for me, I had to stop drinking it when I tried a new medicine for my migraines, and it make soda taste funny. Since coming off that medicine, I have a soda as a treat on occasion, or when we hit the drive through ( ) After having to quit soda because of the funny taste, I learned to love plain water, water with lemon, water with lime, water with crystal light (although I am quitting those now, too).
Another thing that is so mind boggling to me is the amount of sugar in a can of soda.
For example, if you are buying a bottle of coke with 44 grams of sugar, you would divide 44 by 4.2 which is equal to about 10 teaspoons of sugar.
WOW 10 tsps of sugar in one coke and then if you drink like 3 a day it's like 30 tsps of sugar a day. When you are able to break it down like this you can really see the damage you are doing to your body. I coudn't imagine walking to my cupboard and downing 30 tsps of sugar. I think I would be so sick. It makes so much sense now, for why the diabetes crisis and obesity crisis we are in today.
I think in terms of what I eat or drink today, I maybe get like 3 tsps of sugar a day, which would be just about right for an adult female.
Do not drink this crap if you can so help it. Find a way to get this out of your diet.
