Yup, I just gained almost 20 back even when I am still trying! ugh. And this is my 8th attempt at quitting smoking--embarrassing to admit, but it's true. If this was easy, everyone would be healthy and skinny. Hit the "reset button" and start again.

I haven't had quite that experience....but I've watched closely as a brother of mine went almost All The Way Down with acute pancreatitis, wildly out of control diabetes and spent a month in the hospital! And even he has made a turn around....!

You have already taken the biggest step to turning this around for yourself!! You've made the decision you don't like where you "are". Its those who never get there, that really don't care enough about themselves to admit that...those are the folks who are hopeless! NOT YOU!!

Start by going back to the very basics and challenge yourself to do just a little bit of what you know is good for you. Success breeds success.... One day you walk to the corner and back, then go to the next corner and back...! Eat one good meal....then make it two. Drink one glass of water...then make it three. You've been there---you will know when you are doing it right. And there's NOTHING stopping you from doing it right again. Even just a little turn around will help you.

I yo yoed with my weight for YEARS, but finally came to realize that this is a life long journey and it takes time to establish healthy habits. It is overwhelming but just take it one step at a time and one day at a time. Only make changes that you can live with for a lifetime. I recommend taking classes at the gym. They make fitness so much for fun.. and be sure and use an ipod when you work out or walk by yourself. Music can be very motivating and it sure beats boredom!

You are not hopeless ! Every single member of Spark People has gone through the same thing at one time or another in our lives. We're all experts at gaining, losing and regaining the weight. You can't change the past, but you can influence and change the future. Don't beat yourself up because you've regained weight. Instead, work on making simple changes that will help make your future life much more healthy.

Take baby steps literally and figuratively. You can lose the weight again, BUT you really are going to have to be patient. While it may have taken 4 months to put on, figure at least 8 to 12 months to take it off. That's the sad reality of weight gain and weight loss. it's easy to pack on, but hard to take off.

Thus the need to be patient with yourself and your body.

Also, since you did gain that weight very quickly, you should get a full physical. Find out what your blood pressure, blood sugar, etc... all are. These are numbers you need to know. you need a baseline. And it's always good to start a healthy lifestyle with a trip to the doctor for a full physical.

Don't worry ! You can lose the weight gain, but you must be patient.

*hugs* I did something similar, took me more like 6 months but still, it's rough. But all that work isn't gone, you learned good habits before so you -know- you can do it.

So for the last 4 months I've relapsed and managed to gain about 70 lbs because of it. Yes, 70 lbs in 4 months. I lost weight from 270 all the way down to about 218, then got sick and bedridden for a short time and just kinda lazy afterwards...going out to eat every day (which has never been a huge habit for me before I got sick) and being on the computer all day with no real will to do anything else. I'm a homemaker now. I spend a lot of my day knitting, drawing, and on the computer trying to set up my home business. My "exercise" if you can call it that is going out to water the garden and weed a bit. I'll be getting a treadmill from my inlaws pretty soon, but my biggest issue with exercise is that it's boring and my husband and I only have one car so getting anywhere for it to be fun is somewhat difficult. I've been considering walking around the neighborhood lately with all of the sun, but given that I live in Washington that'll be hard from anything but May, June, and July.

I guess what I am saying is I like healthy food for the most part but I am incredibly mad at myself for overeating and gaining 70 POUND IN 4 MONTHS. I feel pathetic. It was all due to laziness on my part when I got better and I know it. I feel lazy even now for not wanting to do exercise vids because they are so boring. I want to be sexy for steve, but I also just want to MOVE better. Having a hard time getting up when I squat or lay down is getting old, I'm just afraid of another relapse screwing everything up. I stuck to my lifestyle changes for over a year only to have it come back with friends. It all just feels so...hopeless.
