Well, at least you've learned what you do and don't like to spend your money on!!!

I agree with you, it's a total rip off.

I tried the slimfast diet way back when it first came out. didn't work and left me hungry. but then, i used Metrical. does anyone remember the little 6z cans of that stuff? I have some meal replacement bottles for mornings that i have to leave almost as soon as i get up, but that is all they are for. i picked them for the protein and fiber amounts in them, not the calories.

The pre- packaged plans never worked for me..I prefer real life food. But I have used slimfast shakes when I have a cold/flu and don't feel much like eating solid food without any problem.

I am happy to say that I was able to return all of the rotten Slim Fast and I got store credit and bought good for me foods. Such as flax meal to make chef Meg's Mug Cake. Thank you to everyone!!!

Definitely take back what you can, and donate the rest. Food banks would be happy to have them, and the Red Cross probably would as well. They actually use Slim-Fast in famine and disaster-relief areas, because it's calorie-dense (exactly what makes it NOT great as a "diet" food), it's supplemented with some of the critical nutrients that are hardest to get when there's not enough food, like B vitamins, and mostly because you don't have to do anything to it before you consume it. Since clean water is one of the hardest things to come by in any disaster zone, food that doesn't have to be cooked or mixed with water is incredibly useful.

I have used Slim Fast bars as a quick lunch for days I'm called in last minute to sub and don't have much time to pack a lunch. I buy them on sale with coupons, or get a store brand. When I tried meal replacements to lose weight in the past, I found myself munchy all the time. It was probably a feeling of restriction, maybe a sugar crash (I also felt this way on low-sugar bars, too). It doesn't matter if I get munchy at work, though, because I'm in a classroom, not at home with a full pantry. I find they can be helpful as a quick lunch with some veggies and a fruit, because they do contain some protein and fiber. I lose weight rather quickly when tracking and eating lean protein, lots of veggies, fruit, and limiting refined carbs. Slim Fast is easy to track and a nice back-up plan, but can't do it on a daily basis.

I eat Atkins, and I can't lose weight eating any of his bars or shakes. If you can do so Lindsay, then do so. Donate the slim-fast, and learn from your lesson. I have issues with sugar alcohols, and can't lose when I eat them, because they cause me cravings, and I binge.

You should try to get your meals from real food. I know time constraints might be a problem, but try. Use the meal replacements for snacks, or after a workout, and limit them to 1 a day. They aren't real food.

Being able to eat lots of meat and vegetables is why I do Atkins. However if you can lose, or maintain on Atkins with a bar or shake every so often.. it is better than gaining. You have been doing good.

Lots of food is pushed as diet food, but are bad for you. Just add Slim-fast to the list.

Coral that is your opinion. I think that anything can be part of a healthy diet in moderation. I have the occasional Atkins bar and they are tasty and convient. Should you live on them? No

Neither any Atkins drink/bar or Slim Fast drink/bar should be part of a healthy diet. Ditch all of them. Take them to the dumpster.

Use them as one meal a day and then eat non-processed foods for the other meals.

I knew going into this idea that it was bad but the ad really got me! So far I was able to take 3 packs and 1 meal bar back. Waiting to see from the store if I can take back the unwrapped but not opened things. Fingers crossed!!

I can understand why some people prefer, or are able to control their diets better on these prepackaged items.... because it requires little thought. However, having tried the Slim Fast Bars I can't imagine losing weight while using them because they left me feeling hungry, tired, and craving more sugar. Hope you can return them or sell them to someone else!

When I was in college I did do slim fast shakes but then I learned the hard way that you must stick to a normal diet instead of the shakes to keep the weight off. The ads are so promising right?

I think shakes and bars are ok to have on hand for those grab and go moments, but not something you can rely on.

Are you able to return the stuff to the store?

1/7/13 4:49 P

Chalk it up to a learning experience and go to the store and stock up on REAL food. Bar and shakes should only be used occasionally, and even then if you can avoid them you should. A hard boiled egg, banana, PB&J, yogurt, hummus and veggies are all MUCH better choices for a quick snack, or part of a complete meal. Ditch the shakes.

I used the walmart equate brand of slim fast years ago lost 70 lbs but as soon as I stopped drinking it I gained the weight back plus!

As long as you don't open the packages then there is no reason you can't return them! emoticon

I agree with the comments re: real food. Why drink any shakes or consume supplements? They all have unhealthy additives and preservatives. Real food!

This is why I'm kicking myself about it, the ad sucked me right in! Normally I go for Atkins because nutrition wise, they are better for you. I don't think I'm allowed to get the Sunday paper anymore :p

1/7/13 11:30 A

I think regardless of the brand it's probably best to get real food as close to nature as possible.

1/7/13 11:19 A

The best use of SlimFast I've ever heard is a college baseball coach who asked his guys to drink 3 SlimFasts a day, one between each meal, to help them gain weight! LOL! These were young guys who were hitting the weights pretty hard. If they hated SlimFast, they could have 3 PB&J's a day instead.

Maybe you could donate them to a local university sports team! emoticon

Have you tried to get off of those prepackaged products and into real foods like lean meats, veggies, and fruits?

I would use thos items you mention only as an occasional item or last-resort choice.... Real foods are way better for you and much more effective......

So, I've done the whole Atkins thing and I know how to low carb. Though, I fell victim to local ad and now I have 40 bottles of Slim Fast shakes, 2 boxes of meal bars, and 2 boxes of snacks. I'm MAD at myself because the shakes have more cal then the Atkins shakes, and a lot more carbs too. The meal bars should just be considered sugar crashing candy bars, and the snacks, well, I like the snacks ;) Anyways, I am mad at myself for falling for the sale. I could have bought the Atkins shakes and had 16 bottles for the price I paid for 24 Slim Fast shakes. Then they throw in the free meal bars and snacks and I'm sunk! Dang it! All Slim Fast is is sugar crashing, high carb, pretend food. I told myself that I'm not going to have more then 1 of those times a day and maybe 3 a week if I can help it. Lesson learned, ugh!

Side note, how does ANYONE do the Slim Fast diet? Talk about a sugar crash!
