I have no problem when recipe gives the container size such as 1 cup or 2 cups, etc. But when the recipe just gives how many servings rather than container size it is very time consuming trying to figure out if that's 3/4 cups or 1/2 cup or 1/4 etc. Whoever made the recipe should know what size container was used to get the number of servings for the nutritional value. It would be nice if t calculator was available without having to go and enter the recipe all over again in the recipe calculator. I understand what you're saying coach Denise but just thought it would be simpler to specify size of container. Thanks for the input.

If the serving size isn't listed, then you would need to try and divide it into the number of servings as best you can. An example given by another member in this forum: "hummus for example, if the recipe says it makes 8 servings, you take the total amount, and divide it by 8. If it makes 2 cups of hummus, 1 serving would be 1/4 cup (4tbsp), most commercial ready made hummus has 2 tbsp as a serving."

I don't know if anyone else have this problem. When looking at recipes and the serving size, I get really confused because most of the recipe will say number of servings instead of container size to use. To me, this is so time consuming to have to try and portion the meal to that number of servings. Would it not be clearer to just reference portion size as cup or 1/2 cup etc.? I find this very confusing.. I found a great recipe for mashed potatoes that I want to try "Basic Homemade Mashed Potatoes" it seems simple enough but when I get to the portion size/number of servings it get confusing. It says 12 Servings! Is that a 1/2 cup or Cup of potatoes? Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution. I love Sparkpeople but I just feel that this part of the program needs to be simplified a little more. Thanks in advance.
