I lost fifty pounds from Nov 2010 to June 2011, my husband lost 40 pounds. It was walking and keeping to 1200 cal. I pulled out some old jeans I had and kept them on the shelf so I could see them. I also purchased a bright red blouse in Egypt that did not fit I was too big for any of them. I hung it in my closet. They were my goal. I kept wearing the same sweatpants when I hiked in the forest each day and sooo cool as they got bigger and bigger. I made a set program time wise so nothing else stopped me from walking every day. The day I could put on that red shirt was so shocking and fantastic I could not wipe the smile from my face for hours I am serious! So pull out something from the past keep it where you can see it and as the time gets nearer try it on, you may be amazed! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

This is day 3 for me too & so far so good. But I know what you mean, you get on the scale & say "what am I killing myself for" when the scale stays in one place, or even worse, goes up. We can do this together! I think I just need to start taking my measurements so that if the scale looks bad, maybe the measurements will be more encouraging.

I am also in my day 3 and I sincerely understand the being scared part. For me its like playing an old rerun over and over. I too need much support in this and if I can be of any help at all, I am here. Just having someone that is in the same situation to talk with, share with helps in so many ways. I dont have a strong support system at home. So I go into this thinking I can do this for myself, without the support, but with 3 kids at home, and a husband that craves sweets and junk food is a great threat to pull me back to the unhealthy side and I blow it. I am trying to introduce the new foods to them, but we have some very picky eaters + a vegitarian. This site has been great and everyone is so helpful and caring. Your in good hands. Let me know if you ever just wish to chat.

Your as SO not alone! This is day 3 for me. I'm doing ok, so far no slips at all. But I've been here before and it is usually the scale that defeats me...or causes me to defeat myself.

Just know that you are not alone in the struggle, and I'll try and remember that too.
We can succeed and there are so many people using this site who are an inspiration and have been successful.
Good luck, hang in there, maybe scared is good, maybe there is something else, depressed for instance that is the real trigger to failure. emoticon

I know what you mean about having a hard time seeing yourself healthy. It's almost been too long for me to remember (thus all my visualization aides around the house), but this morning at breakfast something came over me and I honestly felt like I could see where I wanted myself to be and it was like a strong belief that I was going to be able to change my lifestyle. I wondered to myself, "is this the click that people feel when they finally make the determination to change?" Believing in yourself is a strong step in the right direction. If you have the strength to be "scared", you have the strength to "believe". So let the good choices roll!!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss! I know what you mean when you say you "half heartedly try to lose." I seem to sabotage myself when I lose the weight & I can't seem to see myself thin. But I'm going to keep trying this year so that it will be my best year yet!

I was in the same boat... been heavy for so long, not sure how I will deal with being thin! I think it had me scared enough that I was only half heartedly trying to lose!!

I am now seeing myself a new way - that I CAN do this, I WILL do this... and SOMEDAY I will be happier and more comfortable with myself!

It has taken me a lot of years - and weight - to finally start seeing that this WILL happen this time!!

I lost 1.6# for my first week! My goal is 1# per week... so I am ahead of the game! emoticon

Thanks for the encouragement! I know I need to take this one day at a time & try to keep the faith. But you do forget what you used to look like & how you felt when you were thin. Again, thanks for the encouragement. I think we can certainly do this together. emoticon

I had the same thoughts when I started. After only 2 or 3 months I found myself thinking it was a dream to be losing weight this way. It almost seems too easy! I always associated weight loss with suffering! But it really works and has continued to work for me!

You will have great support to get to your goal. Leave those 20 years of weight gain behind and embrace moving forward today with small changes that will eventually be a new lifestyle change. Find some exercise that you enjoy doing. Making small changes here will be helpful to you. This is your new journey I hope you get excited about it! I believe you can do it!

You can do it! I am just starting this weight loss journey myself and have a long way to go but I have every faith that I will meet my goal this year! I think SparkPeople will be a huge support to those of us just getting started with a new, healthier lifestyle.

Can I really lose all the weight I've gained since 1991? Its so scary! I haven't seen the thin me in over 20 years & its hard to believe I can ever get there again. emoticon
