Hi emoticon and congratulations on beginning your Spark journey!

There's so much here to help you along the way and excellent advice to setting and achieving healthy goals. With the thousands and thousands of fellow Sparkers you will always find someone you can connect with. I am always amazed how many lives have been changed for the better through the use of SparkPeople.

If you have not already done so, I suggest that you check out the videos in the "Healthy Lifestyle" section. Scroll down for the site orientation videos.

That should point you in the right direction. I find that if you just start looking around Spark, you will quickly learn about the wonderful tools available for your use. After being a Sparker since 2007, I still find something new and very useful.

Welcome and best wishes!

Oh yeah, this is truly the right place! I agree with all the suggestions already made - small steps, lots of community involvement here on Spark People, read, learn, and TRACK everything you eat. Get a little exercise started - the ten-minute-a-day approach really helped me get started - and have some fun, too! Read what has been blogged by folks with lots to lose or those with disabilities and other obstacles. It is very inspiring! Be sure to post blogs and visit the Message Boards often. Reply to other members with encouragement and support, cuz that'll help you even more than it does them! This CAN be done! Get your Spark ON!

Sweetie, you're in the right place! We've ALL been there. I was in complete denial about how much weight I was putting on, to the extent that I do not know what my top weight was! You're not unusual, and you don't have to do this on your own. Nor do you have to do it all at once. Small steps are the way to go. Set yourself some realistic goals. I am aiming to lose exactly the amount you are altogether and I'm nearly a quarter of the way there. I joined SP six months ago. Remember, you didn't put the 120 pounds you want to lose on in a couple of months - you won't lose it in a couple of months either. Think of SP as a bunch of friends who are going to be with you forever, including after you've reached your goal weight. Because you will.

Feel free to add me as a friend and I'll add you back emoticon

So I just saw pictures of me from an event from about a week or two ago. First of all, how am I this huge that NONE of my family or close friends will approach me about it? I'm HUGE and out of control. I feel like the Lindsay Lohan of obesity. Seriously? I mean I knew that I was living in a bubble where the scale and the mirror didn't match up. I didn't FEEL as big as the scale was saying I was. But, are all of my friends and family living there too? This is CRAZY! I am tired of living this way, I'm very sad. I know it's a long road ahead, ultimately I want to lose 120 pounds. It just seems so insurmountable. Like a large looming mountain ahead of me, and I'm being told, go climb! Anyways, just wanted to voice my sadness and need for help. I'd really like to make some close friends that will be able to lean on for support. Thanks for your time and for reading. I know there's a pretty and happy girl in here somewhere...just don't know how to get to her. emoticon
