I read somewhere that squeezing a lemon into about 32 oz. a day can lead to excellent benefits. Lemons are very high in vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Drinking lemon water will help stimulate and filter your liver and kidneys. Ask your Kidney specialist before doing this.... If your doctor is not helping to refer you to a registered dietician...call the hospital to get a referal and get a new doctor....Renal failure is nothing to play around with...
My sister in law has lupus and her kidneys were failing. I was incharge of taking care of her and this is what I learned. Sodium needs to be way low. potatos and other white veggies are out. I recall things like chayote squash were also out, If it is a crisp like veggie take a look at the potasium levels. If you are at the store and you have to look at a nutrition label chances are you should not be eating it. The closer to natural whole foods the better because she preservatives in boxed and canned foods are hard on your kidneys. Also things like beans are hard too. Hope that helps.

Not a medical person, but known a few ppl over the years
One thing I was told that you have to watch foods with Phosphorus in it since it leaches Calcium from the system so foods that are high in it such as Cola Drinks, Peanut Butter, Cheese, Sardines, Chicken/beef liver, Nuts, Caramels, Beer and Ice Cream should be limited or out right cut from ones deal.
You also have to watch the sodium intake from what I understand the higher the stage you are in the more you have to watch how much sodium you take in because of it increasing water retention which isn't a good thing.
Anyone doing a renal diet for kidney failure? If so how do you check labels at the store for phosphorous and potassium and calcium, most products dont' have that on the label, so I asked the dietician if she can help me, but she gave me sheets that are rather confusing, as some say low potassium is cherries but then it will say medium potassium is cherries too, so I dont' understand, I have to do a renal diet as I have stage 3 kidney failure, it bounced between stage 2 and 3 so I"m trying to save my kidneys as long as I can, but I Find the diet confusing, and the kidney doc is no help, so thought if anyone was doing it or knew of someone who was maybe you could share how to figure it out?
