Artificial, so it can go up earlier and stay up later.

We always went and tagged a real tree and cut it down ourselves and brought it home. And every year since I was a small child I was struck with horrific bronchitis and sometime pneumonia and even hospitalized a few times by the end of Jan.

One year our cat who would go nuts with the real trees, knocked our tree in front of our front door. I few precious ornaments broke and we had to climb through a window to get into the house.

The next year I decided I was at an age and stage where it was time to invest in an artificial tree. Since then I've never gotten sick again. Having severe seasonal allergies, my docs and I surmised that I was badly allergic to the pine all this time...hence no more real trees. No more pine needles imbedded into the carpet until Easter, no more watering, no more cat trying to climb it!

I will also say that I spent $125 (not bad right?) at Walmart for our fake tree and it is the most beautiful fake tree any of us have ever seen. It is so realistic that for the last few years I've wanted to purchase a newer and smaller one and the kids (who are all grown and spent the last 10 years with this fake tree) just refuse to support that idea!

Its a grand tree and it is a part of the family at this point. Not sure if I'll ever get my new tree lol.

I like real, but we have an artificial fiber-optic tree. Had real trees for many years.

I could go either way, but my husband likes a real tree. I like the smell, but it doesn't last. I hate digging the needles out of the carpet, the kids don't care, but we don't have much space to store a fake tree. If I lived alone I wouldn't have one.

Fake. Years of cleaning up needles and a really good post Christmas sale made the decision for us.

Artificial. I always used to get real, but I didn't like cutting down a tree. I started feeling like it was kind of sad to kill a tree and bring the "body" in the house to dry up as part of what is supposed to be a time of celebration. The cats won't leave it alone whether it is real or artificial. The artificial ones do seem more resiliant to their efforts, though. It's commonplace for me to find them up the tree in the mornings.

Pre-lit artificial for me

Unless one owns the land that the tree or trees grow upon ( or has ties to the owner/s ) artificial is the only monetarily realistic way to go.

Oh, the artificial trees are not the expense, mess or fire hazard of the real McCoy evergreen/conifers either.

Real. I have an artificial one at work, but always get a real one for home. I also make wreaths and floral arrangements with the branches I cut off the bottom. I share these with my aunt and uncle who have an artificial tree and miss the scent too :)

I really wanted a real one since I always had fake ones in my little apartments in Chicago... a real tree was too much of a pain to get in the city, and to drag up a few flights of stairs! So now that I have a house I wanted to get a real tree, but we're going to be gone for a week at Christmas :( So, I just went and bought a cheap 4 foot fake one for $20. Maybe we'll do the real one next year...

TOO funny! LMAO! Cats are fickle beasts. I LOVE the smell of a real tree, but we've had artificial for as long as I can remember. We do have fir and spruce scented air fresheners, just because it just smells so Christmas-y to us. So far, my daughter's cats have not been bothered by the air freshener. :)

12/5/12 11:37 A

I'm allergic to fir trees, which is what most Christmas trees are, so I stick with an artificial one. I do miss the aroma, but that can be replaced with room fresheners or scented candles.

I have to have artificial or my cats go crazy. After many years of an artificial tree a few years back we decided to get a real tree because we missed the smell and the hunt for that perfect tree. It was a bad idea, my cats would not leave the tree alone so I followed Martha Stewart' s advice by using moth balls, oh my those things won't only keep moths and cats away it made us want to stay away too. As long as I have cats no real tree for me. emoticon Merry Christmas!
