I use Perfect Fit Protein. It has only 70 calories, 3g of carbs and 15g of protein in one scoop. It is a pricey ($45 for 50 servings) but it is vegan, organic, non GMO and gluten free. I add it to a green smoothie everyday plus it has a light flavor so I add it to baked goods/pancakes as well. There are recipes on the products website.

I have heard that Sun Warrior is good and it is very similar to Perfect Fit but it is similarly priced.

Another one you may want to try is Vega. They have a huge variety of flavors but of course more calories, etc. I have found Vega at Whole Foods & my local health food stores.

If you live near a Trader Joe's they carry hemp protein that is vegan but I have yet to try it.

If medical issues such as thryoid medication or history of breast cancer is not an issue; then soy is a great option: tofu, soy foods, soy (milk, cheese, yogurt).

Vegans usually find their carb intake up to about 60-65% of calories, since the protein foods also contain carbs. This is normal, safe and healthy.

Yes, a protein powder is safe: soy, hemp, pea, would be vegan alternatives.

Well i'm guessing as a vegan, you won't want whey-based protein, nor eggs. However the hemp and chia are good suggestions. There's lots of soy-based protein supplements out there, but whether so much soy is ideal? I am not sure.

Yes, it is hard to get sufficient protein when eating a calorie-restricted plant-only diet... you really have to pay attention every day, and it can be a bit of a puzzle how to get in the protein without consuming too many carbs/calories (i.e. when you rely on beans) or too many fats/calories (i.e. when you rely on nuts).

.. gotta say, I had NO idea avocados had so much protein, or kale, or broccoli....

You also have not mentioned eggs. Quinoa and hemp seeds are great sources of complete plant proteins.

I think protein powders (including whey) are just fine. Also, what about soy products - tofu, etc? You didn't mention them, so just checking.

I am not getting enough protein. According to SP I should be getting 60-159, but I'm only getting around 30 per day. I am vegan, and not willing to incorporate meat or dairy. I do eat beans frequently, but I can't have too much in a day because that will push me over my carb limits. I do eat veggie burgers and seiten, but that only adds so much. Is protein powder a safe way to get protein? I have been tempted to add some to my breakfast smoothie, but I'm not sure how safe they are. Any suggestions?
