I think it's dehydration. Processed meats are pretty salty. Bacon, for example - salty.

Nitrates...msg... additives ... colorings... any and all of these can cause headaches to certain people.

I believe the nitrates could be the cause of the headache, especially if you are not used to eating them. I do not put salami or pepperoni on pizza because they are too greasy. I usually just get a plain cheese pizza or one with veggies.

As mentioned processed meats are loaded with carcinogenic nitrates - also watch for "cultured celery extract" which is a natural source of nitrates. I suggest you dispense with the processed meats altogether and put some fresh cooked chicken on your pizza or thoroughly cooked fresh ground beef.

As already mentioned, nitrates are likely the cause. Most commercially sold cured meats have them. In fact, a local producer of cured meats etc here was forced to close because the health department wanted him to start adding nitrates to his products, and he refused. So he closed up shop instead of doing it.

I always blame the salt, though MSG is also a culprit. Drinking enough water may help. I had my last migraine after several days of drinking the bare minimum.

Thanks, Sunshine.

If I had my own choice, I would have composed an entirely different meal, but I was sort of "catering" to hubby this round.

Next time, if there is one (they are rare, because hubby can only tolerate the cheese in small quantities due to lactose intolerance) (he knows that he can't go anywhere after he eats it, because of tummy troubles) - I'll leave the pepperoni/salami off my side, likely, or I'll opt for a different meal entirely.

that is possible, or you could have slept wrong and your neck could be causing it

Yes, since foods most likely to trigger a headache or a migraine include wheat, milk, cheese, chocolate, coffee, sugar, peanuts, pork, nitrites/nitrates ( lunch meats and hot dogs) food additives and MSG, sugar. Also a high fat diet can trigger a migraine....salami or pepperoni are high fat....or could be the cheese.

Fluctuating blood sugar can cause headaches, so balance your sugar levels by eating a carb and a protein...your body might be inflammed...and rosemary can help prevent or lessen headaches

Next time you get a hankering for pizza try this low calorie receipe

Baked Portobello Pizza
2 large portobello mushroom, stem removed
1 tablespoon spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce or tomato sauce each one
1 tsp of Romano or Parm Cheese
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
1/2 tablespoon sliced black olives, optional
1 slice of red onion, chopped small
1 clove garlic, chopped or minced
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Place the mushroom on a Pam Olive Oil sprayed baking sheet, and fill the cavity of the portobella with the minced garlic, then add the parm or romano cheese, raw onion, mozzerella and spread sauce in the cup of the cap. Top with parm or romano cheese
Bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and golden. These are soooo good and sooo easy.

Do you think they could cause a headache?
Hubby & I made homemade pizza last night.
While I didn't eat much of the crust, I did eat the toppings, which included salami or pepperoni, and woke up this morning with a headache.
