I'd agree with the previous poster that there's no way to target weight loss to specific areas of the body. Your best bet is to just stick with a healthy diet and regular exercise, and your body will decide where it wants to take the weight off.

Since you cannot spot reduce fat, the notion that certain body types should avoid certain exercises is a total myth.

Hi, I'm 18 and my goal is to start incorporating exercise and a better diet into my daily life because I have high cholesterol and very low vitamin D. But also, I would like to finally feel comfortable with my body too, so I would like to slim down and lose some body fat. I am 5ft 2in, over 145lbs and pear shaped with wide hips and a bit of a tummy (I've been asked before if I was 5/6 months pregnant, really embarrassing). I would like to lose 35 to 40 pounds. I am not in any rush to lose weight and understand it's something that I should take the time to do. I have read that if one wants to slim down as a pear shape, they have to avoid certain workouts and certain foods, is this true? Speaking in terms of sections (top,mid,lower), what are some of the best exercises to benefit a pear shape like me? Or is this "exercise for your body type" thing not really important? Any pear shapes themselves who have advice?
