wow, 700 cal/day? May I ask, were you taking in the allotted 4T healthy oils and 4oz nuts/seeds daily? Four oz nuts alone is almost 700calories.

I tried paleo, my nutritionist said it is extremely unhealthy because youre cutting out food groups, when i was not on it i was doing 2 hours at the gym and on it i couldnt make it to 20 minutes because no matter how hard i tried i could only get to 700 calories a day, so i had zero energy. It works for some people though,some people love it, so the best thing to do is to try it and see if it works for you !

I can relate to the bread. My family dinner 5 nights/week was centered around pasta or rice. The transition took a couple weeks and was surprisingly pleasant. For me personally, the energy boost, improved concentration, and mood stabilization (due to steady blood sugar) are the indicators that this is the fuel my body operates best on.

You might also look into Primal nutrtition. That's less restrictive on dairy.
Grains -- those are tabu on many dietary plans.
Lots of veggies and moderate amounts of fruit are fine for Paleo, Primal, and most restricted-carb lifestyles.
Meats of any (unprocessed) kinds are fine, in any quantity. I've found that I'm far less dependent upon meat now, but that's not because there's any restriction of it.
Starchy (sugary) veggies are limited, but that's still not to say you can't have them; you can use them in moderation, or alternate with sweet potatoes ... lots of LCers use cauliflower as a potato substitute. I can't eat cruciferous veggies, but I've seen some pretty yummy-looking concoctions of mashed and casserole dishes made with cauliflower instead of potatoes.

Any dietary change is, of course, going to be a "change"! You might find that some of those changes will be ones you really like, but have never had the instigation to sample. This might be that time.

Thanks y'all!

I have not done a ton of research, but w/ my best friend being so hard core and having a cousin that is pretty big on it, I am curious. Totally eliminating a food group is not what I want to do. We love milk, cheese and bread in our home, so to totally get rid of it would not go over well at all. Yes, I am looking for nutrition changes that I can maintain over the long haul and not feel deprived and then go on a binge. My hubby is a true guy and he loves his meat and potatoes, so I want to find ways to cook foods that he loves, only cooked in a more healthy manner. My kids LOVE fruit, but struggle eating veggies, unless it's carrots and then they can demolish an entire bag by themselves.

I was also "hard core Paleo" for about a year, lost all of the weight (plus more) that I intended to lose (never mind my ticker, it's inaccurate) BUT I could not stick with it forever. My size 2 pants were falling off of me but I was ravenous for bread and cheese and I felt like all I did was sit around thinking about food. The eating plan is restrictive and I found myself fighting the urge to binge eat on all of the foods that weren't "allowed." I have to admit that I felt pretty good while on the plan (except for the first two weeks or so which were pure torture) but it was going to be impossible for me to maintain this for the rest of my life. I started incorporating whole grains and low fat dairy back into my diet and have seen no negative response from my body. I still eat a ton of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and healthy fats, fish, etc., but I can't give up entire food groups forever. I definitely wouldn't dog the Paleo eating plan because I greatly benefitted from it, but I'm sure if you are like most of us you want to find a way to eat and be healthy for the rest of your life. This is difficult to do when entire food groups are excluded. I would suggest increasing the amount of vegetables you eat for a start. That alone can have a dramatically positive impact. You will feel full and benefit from all of the nutrients. I had no idea how many fun ways there are to prepare vegetables. Best of luck to you with whatever you decide. This was just my experience with Paleo.

Paleo eliminates all grains and dairy, I believe. The Spark plan does not eliminate any food groups but rather advocates moderation and lower-calorie recipes.

I have been using the Spark People cookbook and recipes from here on the site. My best friend is a hard core Paleo eater and has multiple cookbooks in her home as well as on her Kindle. My question is, what is the difference in the meals from SP cookbook and a Paleo cookbook? Does SP support the Paleo diet?

I have made huge changes in how and what we eat in our home and am wondering if moving towards Paleo is a good move to help keep off what I have already lost and to assist in losing the last 15lbs and then maintaining? I am not one for fad diets and would rather learn how to cook normal foods in a different manner, if that makes any sense. My goal is for our family to be healthy and active.
