Yep, it's a problem all right. I try and save some calories so I can have a snack. My hubby has helped me ... he's saying no more snacking in the evening for either one of us.

I do this! For me it's boredom and not having anything to do with my hands. I have taken up knitting, and find that when my hands and brain are otherwise occupied, even when I'm in front of the TV, I have a lower tendency to want a snack.

Boredom is why I eat at night and also because I don't always eat enough during the day. I decided the best bet for me is to prepare some cut veggies/fruit and leave a yogurt for myself so I have things to snack on when I need to that are NOT sugar and high fat...

I noticed that I have this problem too! after my boyfriend goes downstairs to do homework (he is in grad school) I am left upstairs to read or watch TV . I end up eating chocolate most of the time. I'm slowly trying to wean myself off of this because i know I am not really hungry and don't need the chocolate (I normally have some sort of treat already sometime during the day). I know its one of the things holding me back.
I have only ONCE in the past 4 months "needed" a midnite snack!! I had 2 graham crackers with a cup of tea!! What a cheat that was, uh??

I do exactly the same thing. What works best for me is planning an evening snack which includes lean protein and either fruit or left-over vegetables. I often have cottage cheese with fresh berries, or a sliced apple with peanut butter.

I have the same problem! I've found that next to all my food entries, i've written down that i was just bored :/
I usually work nights, and by the time i get home at 1045pm, the entire household is sleeping, my friends are sleeping, the dog is sleeping lol so there's really not much left to do but watch tv until i get sleepy and munch munch munch.
Unlike you, mine were always unhealthy choices! So first step for me was making them healthier lol next will be to cut them out, because I'm definitely not hungry, just lonely and bored.
Dragon's article was actually comforting in a way lol hope you read it too!

I wonder if I am alone in this....I have taken a close look at my eating patterns and find that I have a big desire to snack frequently at night even when I am not hungry. I have always eaten a healthy diet so I could not understand why I wasn't losing weight and/or had a weight problem. When I first started tracking my calories I noticed that the bulk of my calories was at night from snacking on healthy foods (and occasionally not as healthy foods). When I cut/limited my night time snacking then I started to see my weight drop. So, I was very pleased that I identified the problem and then tackled it but I still have an overwhelming desire to eat at night and wonder if you do too what do you do about it. I have started tracking again starting yesterday and was able to reel myself in from eating after dinner i.e. I enjoyed drinking a nice cup of hot tea but I want to figure out what the heck is causing this.......
