Hi, Berrymare, I hope you fared well today. While the cold itself doesn't get to me, the short days and icy/snowy weather surely do. It was hard for me to make it through the day without finding solace in something I shouldn't be eating. Logging into this site has helped me...distracting me long enough that most times the eating-bad-things urge dissipates. Good luck

I login to SparkPeople each morning and read the "Today's Top Stories" - Feature, Insider, and Blog. And sometimes go from there to participate or contribute in some way.

Now I even properly read the recipe, and will make at least one new SparkPeople recipe, or be inspired by it to look for an alternative recipe.

But even better, I try to do the video. Some are easy, most are challenging (for me - at the moment), and always fun. It's a little game I play with myself to see if I can do the video, and there are so many that I have been able to do a new one every day so far.

Dear Beary,

I remember feeling like you do know when I lived in northern Michigan. Sometimes it seemed like weeks between days when the sun would shine.

What I would do when I had the blahs was find a chair and sit in any window where the sun was shining. I also used what I called "Hillbilly Aroma-therapy." I would take some coconut oil and put one drop on a cold light bulb then turn the lamp on to get the smell of the tropics in the room. It would always make me feel better.

You just have to take it whenever you can get it and make the most of every day.

I hope you feel better soon. Remember spring is only a few weeks away.

Visualize where you want to be and meditate on it. What does it feel like when you get there? Experience that feeling and allow it to motivate you to keep working toward it.

I stay motivated by thinking about how I'm going to feel AFTER my workouts.

I really try to visualize how it will feel at the end of the day when I've stayed in my calorie range, how I'll feel when I come back from a good run, and more importantly, how awesome it is going to feel when I step on that scale and see a number I haven't seen in a very, very long time.

I bought a whole bunch of dance DVDs so that I could do my workouts inside, where it was warm and awesome. I also recently bought a fitbit to keep me motivated and that's what brought me back to SP. It's a constant reminder that I need to stay active, eat right and sleep well. :)

There's a saying in Chinese medicine, "Qi follows the mind." If you send positive energy to your legs and put a smile on your face and find something to do, you'll find the energy to keep doing it despite the food.

Between the snow, the cold making my legs ache and just overall emotional blah-ness I really need some motivation today. I've only been at it a week but I know I'm seeing the signs. If I don't keep logging in, recording my food at the very least I'll stop again just like I have in the past. Has anyone else felt this? How did you get through it?
