ha ha I'm just digging it in my tea!!

D@mn....I've been watching calories for so long, I forgot just how good it is!! OMG - it's like drinking luxury :)

I think I'm actually gonna start buying it once a month as a treat for myself!

I love cream and use real half and half in my coffee in the morning. The FF stuff tastes plastic to me.

I don't drink milk, but I agree with Eelpie with the cream. I like some with my berries on occasion. Try that if you want to use up the cream. Eelpie. It is delicious.

OP - I would just stick to the regular milk, and fit it into your meal plan.

I drink 1 cup of skim milk after every meal. I wait until the end of the meal then I chug it down, it seems like I'm getting more that way. I used to drink whole milk and said I would never change but I slowly did to save the calories. Now whole milk seems too thick to me. Before I got to where I am with milk I drank 12 to 15 cups a day. Funny, I was much thinner then. If you like whole milk then drink it just be sure you stay in your calorie range.

Getting healthy isn't about giving up what you love. :) Drink the whole milk. track it and make sure you take that into consideration with your fat and cals for the day adjusting your portions appropriately.

This thread made me chuckle. We had some heavy cream leftover from Easter. It's gonna get tossed I had some today in my morning tea. O.M.G. was that good. Whew.

There is enough left for tomorrow's tea and Friday's tea...quite possibly Saturday's tea as well ;)

I agree with those that say whole milk is fine as long as it fits into your daily calorie range. I would be more interested in replacing the protein drink with natural alternatives.

I usually only drink milk once per day, actually. I use it when I'm drinking a Click Protein Drink... about 1.5 to 2 cups. I do need the protein.

If I eat cereal -- I use 1/2 cup milk to 1 cup cereal.

If it's truly not a "wrong" -- I think I will stay with the whole milk.

Now to keep me from breaking into a dairy and drinking straight from the milking pail. THAT is real milk!

How many cups of milk are you having daily??

1 cup of skim milk is about 90 calories
1 cup of whole milk is about 150.

Is this extra 60 calories and fat (in each cup of milk) putting you over your Sparkpeople calorie or fat range?

If you really like whole milk and cannot stomach the thought of 2%. Then just drink less of it.

I refuse to eat sugar free or fat free anything (except for skim milk). I think artificial sweeteners are gross. And stuff that is made fat free is just frankenfood. So I eat a lot less than I used too.

Personally, I'd just adjust portion sizes in order to keep calories/fat in control. If you really like whole milk and can't stand 1% - then drink 3/4cup of whole milk instead of 1 cup 1%.

It's great to be able to economize on the fat/calories when it makes sense to do so - the lower fat milks have all the protein, calcium etc but with less calories - yeah! Great idea! UNLESS you don't like them. Then it's just punishment trying to choke them down. Like me with skim milk. I hate it. I just refuse. Ditto on things like zero-fat yogurt or reduced-fat cheese. YUK. I won't do it. And if i won't do it - well, you can "force" yourself to accept these items as necessary evils while "dieting" - but I don't want to "diet"! I want to develop a lifestyle I can live with - and in the case of dairy, it's exchanging portion size for fat content... a deal I can keep for the long-term.

Edit: PS - blending whole with 2% sounds like a decent idea, if you wish to try and "learn" to like lower-fat milks.... blend to a point where it still tastes good to you, get used to it, then maybe blend in a little more of the lower stuff... you might find after awhile that going back to full strength whole milk tastes just as weird to you, as lower-fat milk tastes to you right now.

I think mixing sounds okay unless you start to really think about it and decide you can't drink it. I just buy whole milk now. I don't use much and I use less. I realized that my daughter stopped drinking milk when I went down to non fat. Since she is growing, a cup a day of whole milk is better for her bones than no milk.

Do you have any pressing reasons to switch from whole milk to a lower fat percentage? If it's strictly because of the calories, then you might find that it works better for you to stay with the whole milk and just have less of it. Something that you thoroughly enjoy can be more satiating in a smaller quantity than would be a larger quantity of something that you don't like.

For instance, while I've never been a whole milk fan, I am a huge fan of cheese. The low-fat or no-fat "cheese like substances" will never taste good to me, and are never satisfying. So, I now have my favourite cheeses 15g - 30g (about 1/2 to 1 oz) at a time - and make sure that I get really good, flavourful cheese that will leave me satiated with that 15g or 30g.

Really, there's only 44 calories or so difference between a cup of 1% and a cup of whole milk - you should be able to fit that in to your range if that is what you really enjoy.

If you would like to change down to 2% or lower, then your idea of mixing them is a good one. You could start with 7 oz of whole + 1 oz of 2%, and then gradually change the mix 1 oz at a time until you are completely at 2%. I wouldn't try to do it faster than one or two changes per week if it were me, though - any faster and I'd notice the flavour / texture difference too much.

Edit to add: I forgot to mention that I ended up dropping my milk consumption considerably, even though I've always preferred skim milk. I used to have at least 12 oz with every meal, but now only have 4 oz on my cereal, and 10 oz in my evening hot cocoa --- I drink water with meals now. It just wasn't satisfying enough for me to justify drinking those calories when I could eat something instead.

I drink whole milk -- always have done. My father's parents were dairy farmers.
I just can't get used to 2% and 1% isn't even a consideration.

I've actually considered mixing 2% with Whole as an option.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on weaning from whole to 2% milk? emoticon
