Yes I do enjoy cooking and getting into batch cooking so if I dont have time I will have a healthy choice in freezer emoticon

These are all good suggestions. I would agree that cooking meals from scratch is was better than using pre-packaged foods in terms of salt and carbs. It is amazing how much salt and sugar they put in things.

last week i made chicken chili that was really good. i did it bc funds are low and chicken breast was cheaper then g. beef :/

Make chili but use Jennie O... 99% Fat Free Ground turkey instead of Ground tastes the same. The 99% fat free has no skin added to the mix. Try Making turkey burgers, turkey meatloaf, and turkey tacos. Make Spicey turkey meatballs, just add a packet of taco mix to the turkey with an egg. Make a bunch and freeze.
You can have 4 ounces for only 120 calories when you purchase the 99%.

Check the labels on the chicken you buy, most American chicken is pumped with sodium so it looks plumper. Those rotisserie chickens may be convienent but look at the sodium in them...egads!

Make a stir fry with pork tenderloin, or lean beef like sirloin or top round. Drizzle your stir-fry with low sodium soy sauce, sesame oil, or chili sauce.

Make a portobello mushroom burrger or portobello pizza and use Kraft Shredded Part SKim Mozzerella which is low in sodium. Like provolone try Sargento Reduced Fat Provolone also low.

Avoid French Fries and fast foods as they are high in sodium, fat, and calories.Some Canned veggies, canned soups, spaghetti sauce, potato chips, cheese puffs, pretzels, ketchup, relish, anchovies, capers, headache or heartburn medicines all can contain sodium.

Eating too much salt boosts insulin, the hormone that tells the body to store fat. Also too much salt may make a person crave sweets.

There is a lot of salt in bread and cheese and breakfast cereals. Puffed rice and puffed wheat are sodium free. Shredded Wheat also...2 biscuits about 35 carbs and Kashi 7 whole grain Puffs..1 cup about 15 carbs.

Mrs Dash has many spice flavors that are salt free....or mix your own for flavor...oregano, celery seed, cumin, tumeric, garlic, basil, cinnamon, ginger, etc.

Stay away from processed foods and choose natural, fresh, whole foods (for lower sodium) and raw ingredients. Use herbs, spices, oils, natural sweeteners (fruit, honey, maple syrup), low sodium condiments (Greek yogurt), lemon, lime etc. for flavour.

Choose complex carbs and limit refined grains/added sugar; vegetables, whole grains, fruit, legumes, lentils, nuts, seeds.

Need some ideas to make meals that are low sodium and carbs it seems that is my problem area TIA
