Well keep in mind that different brands have great variation in size...where as one might be a size 18, the other a 16 and yet another a its more about keeping accurate measurements and seeing the inches come off.

This weekend I finally bit the bullet and went to buy new jeans, scared to death that it would be the same ole experience in frustration and not finding anything to fit me the way I wanted. It turned out to be the exact opposite. I picked out just a size smaller and then ended up having to send out the sales lady to find another smaller size (huge ego boost) I wanted jeans to be a little tight, I'm kinda sick of hanging clothes (and so was hubby) I also didnt want to have to buy another pair in a month! So, sometimes you have to take a chance, it may surprise you.

I know I was wondering if the 20 pounds I lost came off my ankles, or the top of my head, or what. But I think my jeans were too small to start with.

I was a 12 but they were getting tight, lost 20 pounds and could wear a 10 but they weren't loose. Then I lost 10 more pounds and they got a little looser, but the last 5 pounds I've gone down to a 8 being loose and fitting in a 6, it just happened all at once. So you'll catch up and start dropping sizes at some point, just keep at it.

I think you should stop using those size 18 jeans and go for 16.
I have done this to motivated myself.

It's the same deal for me, OP. I've lost about 24-25 pounds since I started up here on SP a couple years ago. I'm still wearing mostly the same clothes that I was wearing two years ago. The thing you have to look at though, is how WELL the clothes are fitting you. While I've been wearing a size 12 all the while, I know that I probably should have been in 14s for a while, because my clothes were getting really tight. Now they're pretty comfortable. Heck, when I was 150 pounds in high school I was still a size 12, very rarely getting "big" size 10s.

Take heart- those pounds are gone and you're making wonderful progress.

SO GLAD I found this post! I am in the same boat! I've lost about 35lbs and STILL wearing the same clothes! They are definitely baggy, but they are still wearable. I'm scared to go try on different sizes as well because I would rather spare myself the disappointment. I'm just gonna keep on truckin and wait on the size 14/16 day to come! Thanks to everyone who posted their stories!

I think I am realizing my mistake! Now that I think about it, it's convenient how I forgot that these same jeans used to leave painful, red indentations from where my jeans were digging into my stomach.

It's also nice how I forgot that my boyfriend used to tell me that they were a bit tight in the thighs. That's probably just boyfriend speak for "way too friggen tight". should really stop complaining. They were probably too small to begin with.

I know exactly what you mean!! I thought I was the only one!! There are people who have lost half the weight I have and are down 2 sizes!! I'm like huh...I am at the same 26 :( but like you said they are big but when I put on a 24 uhh owww!! I'm soo glad you posted this!!

I had this happen to! Actually it wasn't until I had lost about 40-50 pounds that I started actually losing from the bottom half of my body. I went from size XL t-shirts to size Small before I could buy smaller pants. Just the way that my body lost weight though!

Wow! It's good to see that I am not the only one in this boat. I am definitely less discouraged than I was before.

Good news is that I see progress in the mirror as well. Heck, I tried on my size 13 jeans, and my thighs and butt actually FIT into them. Granted I can't even fathom closing them at this point, but it's something.

I am going to start measuring myself today. It's got to be somewhat helpful!

GREAT TOPIC! I'm down 17 pounds and can barely tell a difference. This message will help me keep from getting discouraged. I just need to keep on doing what I'm doing and it'll all work out fine. Surely the same is true for you.

It's so refreshing to hear others share the same struggles I do! Seeing the number going down on the scale but none of my clothes seem to fit better yet. And I agree, I'm sure my jeans were skin tight, that I couldn't breathe well in them, and they would cut into my least they aren't THAT tight anymore :) keep up the good work all...we are amazing for getting healthier!!!

I have a relatively large waist and smaller hips and legs. My pants still fit at the waist and are very big in the legs. They look ridiculous at times. I am disappointed that I have not lost more belly fat. But I know I'll hit the tipping point where they will fall off. Until then I look to my other accomplishments.

Hi everyone,gee I know how you feel but I like what someone said start counting inches.. I think we can loose inches faster then weight. and the only way you loose inches is working out streinght training and core work out..I bet you do a 3 or 4 weeks of that and you will be past thos size 16 jeans.. and into a 14.. Keep up the good work

I've lost 16 pounds since January, and can technically still "fit" into my size 7/8, as well as my size 5/6, without them "falling down" - BUT, I hate the way they look on me, they just sort of hang there. Now my new size 3/4 - yes, there's the fit I know and love!

FWIW, I believe there is more "room" in between the larger sizes than there is in the smaller ones. For instance, there could be 30 pounds or more between a 22 and 20. But going from a 2 to a zero can be less than 5 pounds.

I am going through the same thing myself at the moment and must admit I am quite relieved I am not the only one wondering about this! I lost 27 lbs and am still wearing the same clothes, except for one pair of pants that really did not fit me well anymore. The big change I have noticed is that most of my tops are now a lot baggier. This makes sense because when I look at myself in the mirror, I see that my stomach is flatter, my shoulders are more defined, etc. Still waiting to see a difference with my legs and hips, but I sure it will come eventually!

What I keep telling myself is that if losing 27 lbs made this difference, imagine what losing another 27 will do!! So I keep working and hoping!....

I'm in the same situation as you are right now, it's so frustrating. I've lost almost 30 pounds, but an 18 is still tight and a 20 is super baggy. The one thing that keeps me motivated is the fact that I have lost 30 pounds. It's a huge accomplishment that you should be very proud of. And, thinking about it from a different perspective, a size under may fit you the way your current size fit you when you were heavier. Like before, 20s used to give me the tummy bulge, that spare tire around the middle, because the waist was tight. Now they're lose and that spare tire has flattened out, but slap on those size 18s and it reappears. I think it's a matter of readjusting to the way clothes fit you now that you've lost weight and persevering when you feel like you're stuck. Good luck and keep trying, you'll get there!! :)

I agree with the measuring part. I have dropped two sizes but have lost a ton of inches. I measure myself once a month. It is nice to be able to track the progress.

Don't feel bad...I've lost just over 40 pounds and I am still wearing the same clothes. Granted, they are loose. But I would have hoped that I would have "had to" buy a new wardrobe by now! haha...
Try not to get too of these days we'll both be in skinny jeans! :)

I have experienced this, too - I have also lost about 30 pounds, and my jeans still fit - baggy, but I can still wear them. It is frustrating! But, like the pp, I see pictures where I realize they were probably too tight when I started.

Also, I sew quite a bit (thus my name lol!) - and really, the difference between sizes is not as much as you would think - maybe an inch in circumference for adult sizes? So you might actually be down a size if you have lost a couple inches :)

Haha, thanks! I feel better now that I know I'm not totally crazy. I will start measuring myself, that seems to be a better idea -- so I know for sure I am losing a size, and not get so disappointed when it still feels like I am stuck in the same place.

I know that for me I had the same moments. I was a bit sad when I could still wear my old sizes but then when I thought about it, those sizes were skin freakin' tight so really I am sure that I should have been in a 20 instead of an 18. That was my truth about it. Now I am sure I am a 14 because my clothes are falling off but I scared to go shopping because I don't want to be disappointed.
Maybe we could go at the same time and try and new clothes!! We can support each other through this difficult time. LOL

I have now lost 100 pounds but for the first 40 or 50 pounds my pants still fitted me. Hang in there, the pants size decrease will catch up to you soon.

Oh I've been there. Just try to remind yourself you've lost 30 pounds, they have gone somewhere. Maybe an idea would be to start tracking your measurements instead of pounds, for me seeing the multiple numbers go down is more motivating than going by poundage or size of jeans. GOOD LUCK!

Okay. Since the beginning of January, I have gone from 195-200 lbs to almost 165 now. At my heaviest, I wore a size 18...which I am still wearing. Granted they are baggier and are fitting at the biggest part of my hips, but still not completely falling down. Meaning, if I pull my pants up so the crotch of my pants actually touch my crotch , even though they will (after some movement) shimmy down to the biggest part of my hips, I can't pull them up and have them immediately fall down.

I have not checked, but I am pretty certain I have *at least* lost a jeans size and could fit in a 16. But I admit I am disappointed that after almost 30 lbs gone, I can still have on my size 18's.

Basically, this post was just me complaining, and for ranting purposes only. Hopefully SOMEONE has experienced this, and knows how I feel. Haha.
