I'm curious if your priority is to consume foods that will increase your potassium (regardless of their source) and improve your health or to be overly concerned about gaining weight. Eat a banana.

This is a list of high potassium foods.

Out of these, fish,yogurt, and white beans might be high enough in protein to meet your needs.

most fish is around 20 g protein per 3 oz serving. Salmon and haddock have over 300 mg potassium per these servings.

yogurt has 573 mg potassium, and 12.8 grams per cup, and white beans have 207 mg potassium, and 9.5 g protein per 1/2 cup.

Some of the best sources of potassium of fruits and vegetables and although they are carbohydrates, these tend to fit well in a balanced diet.

Here are Some Tips and Tricks to Increase Potassium

Be sure to select at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day making at least two of them high potassium choices.

Eat potatoes with their skin to increase potassium intake. One medium white potato baked with skin will provide 610 mg of potassium.

Three servings of dairy in your diet each day from low fat milk, cheese or yogurt can provide nearly one third of your daily potassium needs. Eight ounces of milk offers about 360 mg of potassium while an eight-ounce serving of yogurt can provide 490 mg.

Include lean meats into your diet several days a week such as salmon which provides 470 mg of potassium or chicken 410 mg.

Almonds make a wonderful protein alternative that is also rich in potassium with four ounces providing a whopping 786 mg. Include them in wraps, salads or as a snack regularly to boost your daily intake.

I don't know how to put the two nutrients together, but this link is to the USDA Data Base that is for Potassium, starting from the highest. You will see things like lentils and beans, etc. which we know have fairly good protein. It will at least be a good starting point.

Ask your doctor about Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). My son has it and his potassium can get low because he dehydrates easily. He went through a series of tests at 7 and is doing great now. He felt weak and like he was going to pass out quite often before his diagnosis. As for potassium rich foods I am including a link to a website, check it out. A search for high protein potassium rich foods comes up with many links too. Good luck!

I suggest discussing a salt substitute like Morton lite salt with your doc.

My primary care doctor informs me that I am deficient in potassium. His accepted range is roughly 3.5 to 5.2 mEq/L and my labs came back below 3.0. That diagnosis explains all the fainting and exhaustion, yet the inability to sleep. He and I agree that the cause for the low number is my years of trying to lose weight that I gained while being in a wheelchair. I am hypothyroid, have an extremely slow metabolism, and am very carb sensitive. My doctor has given me a prescription supplement to increase my postassium but he says he won't be satisfied with anything lower than 4.0 mEq/L. That means I am going to have to supplement the supplement with food. I need suggestions for mainly protein or fat foods that are high in potassium!! Seems like all the potassium got stuck in the high carb foods. And those go straight to my gut! I have gained 4 lbs. in the past 2 weeks trying to increase my potassium and that cannot continue. I've worked too hard and too many years to regain the 55 lbs I've lost. I've already gotten a "nasty gram" from Spark People telling me I exercise too much for the amount of calories that I intake so I don't think that's the answer. Plus I do have physical limitations on my exercise abilities. So if everyone can put their heads together and think up some wonderful protein source with loads of potassium I would sure be obliged! Thanks.
