since my surgery, plain water tastes like metal to me. The only time plain water tastes good to me is when i am working out.
I use the sugar-free flavoring packets and I also use limes, lemons, cucumbers and so on.
I don't see a problem using them. Some people just don't like plain water, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Compared to others, it is not that bad, but still has sodium, sugar, and calories. Water, is truly our better choice. Add a slice of lemon. Or a rasberry. Freeze lime and lemon slices in ice trays. Water, water , water...

I personally think drinking straight water is a good way to help people with a sweet tooth kick that habit. Adding flavor to your water is like indulging it. That is just my opinion though. I have no facts to back that statement up.

My diabetic husband buys those bottles of flavored fizzy water that most markets sell, f/f, s/f, I don't like their cloying flavors, but I do like seltzer water from the bottles. Husband has tried Crystal Lite, Gatorade, flavored lemonades, etc., and the fizzy waters is what he landed on. We both hate plain water. So drink what you enjoy, it is for lifetime, anyway. Plain water going down my throat feels like trying to fill up an old well out back, does nothing to keep hunger away at all, seems to make it worse, in fact. Our dietitian says my drinking coffee day and night, is ok, doesn't keep me awake, and all liquids count.
In the beginning I used that and Mio but now I drink plain water only. I found that the artificial sweetners in those products was making me gassy and for whatever reason seemed to increase my hunger. But if you are doing fine with them and thats the only way you can drink water by all means do so

My doctor said they are fine! It beats all the diet soda I was drinking. He actually gave me a high five when I said was drinking Crystal Light!
While I'm sure it is safe to drink those types of drinks, my personal choice is to refrain. Why add MORE chemicals to a diet that is probably already filled with them? Plus, part of making the transition into living a healthier life means doing things that aren't necessarily what you are used to but that will be good in the long run. Just my opinion!
They do hydrate the body as does water. The upper limit set for diet drinks is no more than 32 ounces daily.

is crystal lite and other sugar FREE drink mixes good or bad for you?? I started drinking it back in april and I love it now my dad brings me some once a week and I drink it like water can it cause cancer or anything??

If it encourages you to drink water, why not? Also, just a touch of juice will add some flavor to water.

I have to do this as well bc I dont like the taste of plain water, I've found these carbonated flavored waters at walmart that are really good too, my faves of those are coconut pineapple and mandrian orange. I think it would be better for me to get my water that way than not drink any water at all.
Most of the time I simply drink bottled water because the water at my home is sooooo bad tasting. But when I am dying for a flavor kick I add crystal light. But I cant stand it full strength the stuff is soooooooo sweet it makes me sick. To me maximum sweetness is 200% water to pack. But I like to drink it half of that for normal drinking. But even that is only a few times a week. Try reducing the amount to find your sweet spot. As soon as you start pushing your sweet limits down you start craving less sweets over all. Even the artificially sweetened ones.

I've been wondering about Crystal Light too. Is it acceptable to drink the CL lemonade? Never thought to flavor my water with it, as I usually use lemon juice.
It is perfectly fine and safe to use crystal light in your water. You may not even need to make it full strength...just a little bit for flavor. Dietitian Becky

I'm not a big fan of artificial sweeteners, so for me, those types of fixes are a no-go. But, if it's getting YOU to drink more water, that is GREAT. A lot of people have real success with these types of flavor enhancers.
When I was getting used to drinking more water, I would add a bit of lemon or lime juice (I still really like it that way, but no longer need the extra flavor for my water to make me drink it). So if you're concerned about the sweeteners, maybe try that. If you're not concerned, just do what you're doing - it's keeping you hydrated and staves off those hunger attacks that are really dehydration attacks!

I am like you I HATE water. But I have been adding the wal-mart brand of MIO Sweet Tea and I have no problem drinking the water and my doctor said the good far outweighed the bad. They are made with Nutrasweet type products but drinking the water is the important thing.

I'm trying to drink more water---because it's good for me especially in the weight loss portion of my program. However, even with the Brita filter that I use, I don't really like water! So I've been adding Crystal Light (or other store brands or generics) to my water....so I can get the water in.
