Don't do everything all at once. Baby steps. For 1 week, get off the couch and walk for 15-30 minutes a day. The next week add in drinking all your water each day and keep walking. The next week add in more fruits and veggies in your diet, keep up the water and walking...

you see what I'm saying. Take it one step at a time.

It's overwhelming when you feel you have so much to change. It's unlikely that any of us can do everything at once. But by definition of the word, we can do ONE thing at ONCE. So focus on making one healthy change at a time.

Personally I found that it was easier to get into an exercise routine before I got my diet in check. There are sooo many benefits to exercise! I think you'll find yourself a lot less depressed once you get yourself moving. Exercise will also make you WANT to make healthier eating habits.

Any step you take towards getting healthier is good.

But making too many changes at once can make it hard for everything to 'stick'.

Trying to establish a habit of regular exercise before tackling the intake side of things is definitely worth pursuing if you think this will work for you.

I strongly agree with everything Heather said.

Additionally, for me, exercise is like a foundational habit to weight loss. What I mean is that I build everything else on it. And if I'm not doing it, it is so easy for the rest to fall apart. And it will. Exercise gives me a sense of accomplishment, builds strength and endurance, keeps my metabolism going, and is a way to put something good into even the crummiest day. Also, if you get your heart rate up for a while (over 20 or 25 minutes for me), you start to get endorphins and they help your mood.

I definitely encourage you to get moving, doing whatever is fun for you for 15 to 30 minutes per day and build from there. If you haven't been active for a while, if you have existing health problems, or if you are obese, the standard advice is to get approval and guidance from your physician before beginning a vigorous exercise program.

Exercising is always good. Even if you can't get your eating under control right now, starting with a bit of exercise is a great way to start easing into a healthy lifestyle.

Just understand that you won't be able to spot reduce your thighs. :) Fat loss doesn't work that way, it's a total-body process! But to answer your question, of course it's okay. :) You can't out-exercise a bad diet, but exercising will improve overall health and make it easier to make healthier choices at the dinner table. You may not see the scale move without the accompanying dietary changes, but you'll definitely get benefits, and you won't be wasting your time.

I feel I have been on the weight loss journey for most of my 42 years. I lack motivation, self-esteem, accountability and most of everything else. It has been an extremely hard year for me and I really do not have anyone I can share my feelings with. Most, or all, of my closest friends are all slim so they don't have the issues I have. I want to do this but I always give into the emotional cravings and needless eating of everything that isn't good. I can go all day on a Mt. Dew and a can of Pringles. I also always give into the not getting off the couch mindset. At the present time, I am scared that if I keep trying to "diet" and do the exercise at the same time that I will keep failing. I have bukoos of YouTube workout videos and I have a treadmill, rebounder, weights, bowflex, recumbent bike and many resistance band contraptions. I have no excuse to not be doing something. I should be the most fit person in the world! But my brain isn't cooperating. My question is can I exercise to tone up while I'm trying to get my mind right to do the food part too? I'm flabby, especially thighs, in some areas so I'm wondering if I do the resistance bands or videos to tone up and gradually work on my eating right part, will there be any benefits or would it just be a waste of time? I'm sorry if none of that made any sense but if anyone could give me some advise or anything helpful (therapy probably wouldn't hurt) it would be greatly appreciated. I'm so tired of hating myself and obsessing over weight but not doing anything about it.
