For me I moved evey 20 minutes after reading an article from Gretchen Reynolds where she said "Sitting for long periods of time — when you don't stand up, don't move at all — tends to cause changes physiologically within your muscles" and "If you can stand up every 20 minutes — even if you do nothing else — you change how your body responds physiologically."

I ate low carb, high protein and moved around every 20 minutes and walked...I lost 96lbs. Even wiggling your toes or figeting has a cumulative effect on body weight, so I did no real strenous exercise and until today I do the same thing and I am Maintaining my weight without a problem.....and I still eat like a diabetic. WORKS FOR ME.

Yes, I am under physician care and on medication, but even she told me we can help replace what the thyroid doesn't, but it won't help your metabolism problem. She recommended water exercise and I have tried that, but after a couple of weeks of toughing it out, the pain became too much on my bad leg, so I gave that up. I'm looking into the seated type of exercise, so I'm not giving up by a long shot. My main concern is, yes, I have to limit intake and carbs, but I don't want to overdo it either and compromise the nutrition I need as well. So, thought I'd try getting some advice from your wonderful site. Thanks for replying!

If your thyroid is the issue---are you under the care of a physician and on medication?

Have you talked with your physical therapist about "movement options". I am sure your therapist would be happy to put together a work out plan for cardio and strength training.

What is your SP weight loss calorie range?
What has been your daily calorie intake on average for the past 3 weeks?

You might want to look up EMMABE1 page and INDYGIRL. There are people in Indygirl's Team that have mobility problems and suggest different thing you can do.

There are people here who lose weight without significant (or any) formal exercise. It's more difficult and takes longer, but basically you just have to adjust your intake downwards, to compensate for the lack of calorie-burning activity.

There are also plenty of people who exercise despite mobility issues. I'm sure someone here can provide you with the link to the "seated exercises" article, it might be something you could consider...

After turning 50, I began a long journey of slow but steady weight gain for no reason after being thin all my life. Long story short, after years of trying to find answers, it seems the old thyroid is the problem. Okay. Rethink diet to low carbohydrates, slow and steady wins this race. Now, I have had to have a hip replaced with complications and my ability to do aerobic exercise is now gone. Back comes the weight. I've got to get the weight off, but have no idea what else to do at this point without the ability to do any meaningful exercise. Anybody else have such a goofball situation?
