One way you could get some walking exercise in is to put your groceries and laundry away one at a time. I did this for years (still do), and it works admirably :-) I have even been known to empty my towel cupboard (tons of towels, face cloths, hand-towels, etc.) and put them in the lounge and then walk them back to their home in the bathroom one at a time, when I haven't had many in the laundry pile. I know it sounds weird, but it is a lot better than just walking back and forth with nothing in my hands - LOL! I can listen to the radio talk-back, or listen/watch TV while doing it.

The other thing is, you live in an apartment building - does it have stairs? If so, try running up and down them - that is a good work-out.

I did get a copy of Spark People Cardio Blast in the mail last week. I am going to try that. I did do a bunch of online "research," and I think the treadmill might just need a new belt or something. A repair person is going to come on June 1st. Until then, looks like I'll be getting to know Coach Nicole.

Sounds like it's not dead, since the motor does run. More like it needs repair/adjusting. Have you tried googling the problem? My sister (who is NOT mechanically inclined) googled a few problems she had with her car, and ended up fixing it herself with youtube videos, an Amazon order for parts, and a trip to her local parts store. has a bunch of info on treadmills & their problems, too.

At any rate-- are there stairs in your building? You could do them, for exercise. There are also a ton of videos here on Spark, and loads of things on youtube as well. Got any exercise DVD's? A library nearby, where you could check a few out?

Aww too bad. Hope you can fix it or find someone who might be able to help.

IF you have to replace it check out Craigs list or your local paper. I have a nordic trak ski machine that I love. I bought it used from the "Bargain Box" in the local paper for 125$. Definitely worth it.

I know gyms have treadmills, but I'd rather not have a forty something a month membership fee for a year. I just need to find a new favorite for a couple weeks until I can get this one repaired or replaced. It's just quite discouraging, since I only purchased this one from a friend less than six months ago. It had been in perfect working condition, and they only sold it to make room in their house for a nursery. It is five years that typical life expectancy for a treadmill?

Today should be awesome, because yesterday I hit the 15lbs lost mark. But, instead of being on cloud nine, I am frustrated as can be because I'm pretty positive my treadmill is done for. For six weeks, I've eaten right and walked at a 3.5 with a 1.0 incline for 60 minutes, six days a week. I lost fifteen pounds doing this. I REALLY was starting to feeling like I CAN DO THIS. My clothing size dropped and I bought new jeans this weekend. But...last night about fifty five minutes into my work out, my treadmill starts squeaking and sticking. I hoped for the best and prayed it would work today. The belt moves just fine...unless I am on it. As soon as you put pressure, it stops moving. I got a wrench and tried to adjust the belt like the owner's manual says...I tried three times since it says repeat the process if it doesn't work the first time. Still, no dice. I KNOW that I can find some other exercise to do, but i love my treadmill. My apartment building is off a very busy street with no sidewalks or paths. I would literally have to walk IN the roads with the cars for about four blocks before I got to a sidewalk. Also, I worry about not being able to keep pace or having to lug around a water bottle and keys and everything. I don't have a bicycle. I want one, but I'd also need a bike rack and then to drive somewhere to ride it. I'm so discouraged and so frustrated right now. I need to find something new to do that's convenient and affordable that I love as much as my treadmill. needs to start working again. Please help me.
