sometimes it is a matter of reprogramming the negative self talk and stopping and counting to 10-20-30 before venting your frustrations. Not that you shouldn't be true to your feelings but you said "i have lost contact with most of my friends, and those still in contact are just fed up about hearing about my struggles." It's understandable right? If you had a friend who every time you got together they harped on the same thing it would get old for you too..So as the song says 'accentuate the positive' make a list of the things you have accomplished in life and try to remember how you mastered those things, see how those methods could apply to achieving your new goals. Make small goals and include your friends...pick a 5k walk for a charity in a couple months and train for it. it is something positive to talk about when you are getting together and fun/healthy to do as a group.
Here is a great exercise for your spirit that costs you nothing, everyday give 3 compliments (real ones) to people weather you know them or not; simple things, a blouse, hair style, shoes that kind of stuff-nothing creepy.

I'm in the U.S., not UK, I hope that's all right. Do you have any insights as to what causes you to binge? I am not an expert by any means, but the two things I can think of that may cause a binge is stress/mindless eating--which sounds like you hinted to, and waiting too long to eat, and then you are starving and eat too much from waiting too long.

Have you ever kept a journal? This may help, to write down your feelings when the binge urges come up, and then you could get a better grasp of why. Lots of times, when we see the why, it helps us to figure out what to do about it.

I am an emotional eater, in that it is really hard for me to plan meals, I get too distracted to take time to sit there and make a plan for myself. I end up not knowing what I want to eat until I want to eat it. And then the times I get upset for something, I can't seem to eat...and the times I get so busy I forget to eat.

One thing that helps me a lot is to pretty much eat the same breakfast every morning, it reduces the need to plan, and another thing, I try to time my meals so that I am eating a small healthy meal every 2-4 hours so that I don't go too long in between meals, which helps prevent the overeating once I realize I did not eat.

Apart from the links below, talking with your Dr and asking for a referral to a Therapist who specializes in treating people with eating issues would be very beneficial. A lot of the time that kind of eating can be linked to depression, which in itself can be linked to a lot of unsavoury baggage that we carry around from our past. Therapy gives us the tools to help when we feel the need/desire to binge, as well as dealing with whatever caused this feeling in the first place.

Good luck, but DO check out those teams.

Welcome to Spark People !

One thing you might do is join one of the Spark Teams for emotional eaters or binge eating.

Joining one of these teams will help you network with other members who have issues with binge eating. Also, what you might do is a google search for online support groups in the UK for binge and emotional eaters. I found these folks in the UK. you might want to check out their website.

I'm pretty new to Spark people, but not new at all to eating issues- had problems most of my life but have been pretty dire in the last 10 years. As a result of all the stress of trying to tackle them, and beating myself up about them, and avoiding temptation etc, i have lost contact with most of my friends, and those still in contact are just fed up about hearing about my struggles.

I'm in real need of a buddy to help me through this. Currently, I can't go more than 2 days without a serious binge, and am putting back on weight I have struggled to lose over the past year. Anyone out there okay with chatting in the evening for a bit of a download/moral boost? Willing to do likewise for them if it helps...
I used to be good at bouncing back after a bad day, but it's been going on for so long now, with no signs of improvement.....

someone in the UK would be grand. If near Leicestershire, we could even meet up some time, but not fussy- anyone at all would be amazing xxx
