True, the subject is a bit different, but as we age, we began to be more aware of things like this. LOL!

I was looking at what I ate yesterday, which would be typical of how I get plenty of fiber in my diet: apples, baby carrots, black beans, chili beans, mixed vegetables, Flatout Foldits, chunky peanut butter, etc.

I'm sometimes taken back a bit when others tell me about their being constipated, or "irregular," or "too loose" (sorry). I really think over a period of years that could take a toll on one's plumbing system.

Kudos for bringing up a subject not too many are brave enough to talk about!

The "butt cancers" are no fun at all, and the more folks talking about things like fibre the more chance that people will take what preventative steps they can.

Even without cancer being on the list, there are so many diseases and conditions that fibre can help prevent or alleviate (high cholesterol, diverticulosis, diverticulitis, colitis, and so many more). Besides, the right amount of fibre just makes "going" through life so much easier!

Thanks for bringing it up!

I used to get plenty of fiber in my diet and felt great. I recently gave up whole wheat and have struggled to get the right amount of fiber, it's time to go back. I always eat lots of fruit and some vege's but the whole wheat always put me over the top. My bathroom duties show the difference!

I need fiber to get rid of excess estrogen because of estrogen dominant breast cancer

I'm always struggling to eat more fiber. emoticon I do much better when I plan my meals and remember to plan the veggies. I used to just plan the main dish and then whatever we had for veggies is what we had, if I remembered. I'm need to eat more fiber, I'm not "regular" at all unless I do.

There is NO WAY ON THIS EARTH I would go low fibre. I love ...... I say "LOVE" my fruit and veges far too much!! I also NEED at least 42 grams of fibre most days because otherwise my butt is NOT my friend :-(

it's a huge deal!

it causes colon cancer as well as high cholesterol, because fiber pulls cholesterol out of your body, and hasproven prevention against polyps...

i'd say butt cancer is about the least appealing of them ALL, so i'll eat my veggies, thank you! emoticon

About 4 and 1/2 years ago I changed my diet and exercise regimen. Although I have gained some pounds back since I got to my goal, one thing that has not changed is how much fiber I have added to my daily diet. I use to eat very few fruits and vegetables or other high fiber foods. Now, I eat not just fruits and vegetables but many foods with fiber, both soluble and insoluble. The upshot is that, along with lowering my blood pressure, lowering my cholesterol, and going from a waist size of 35 to 32, I have been consistently "regular" for over four years. At my age, I consider that a fairly significant thing. I definitely think not understanding the important of fiber in the diet can be detrimental.
