I honestly felt akward also. This IS the internet, who is behind that keyboard when they reply? Like you said we'll probably never meet in person so we can never know exactly who it is, or if they are who they say they are. But we do know one thing, they ARE a person. Every person has much of the same wants, desires, and needs. Those that come to this site usually want the same thing more specifically, health and happiness. Give it a whirl and I'm sure you'd like it. I tried 2 or 3 times to do it on my own and gave up after a few days at best. I then came to this site and started asking questions and getting support - it was the BEST decision I ever made! I'm past my goal weight and still come here for support! The people here are wonderful and will help you succeed. Don't give up! We're here if you need us!

Give it a whirl. I think you might be surprised at how much support you can get from others working on same goals. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best!

I've been a member of SparkPeople for a long time, but I've never used the message boards before. I lost weight and then I quit smoking 7 years ago and the weight came back with a vengeance. I finally got back on the horse and I've been losing it slowly for a little over a year and am now back to about 20 lbs over goal.
What I don't understand is why they say that people who use the message boards are more successful at losing and keeping the weight off. I feel silly 'talking' to people I don't know, who don't know me, and probably never will.
