Great advice for you! I would also throw in the mix that it is recommended by the majority of fitness gurus that you do cardio first then strength train -- if you do both in one workout.

Remember such thing as spot training, you have to train all the muscle groups, so rotation of training various muscle groups is recommended. Spark People has great articles on strength training that you might find helpful.

I would recommend a full-body strength training program (which includes core work), twice a week. Ab work is not going to remove excess fat from your belly. A healthy diet and regular exercise will help with overall fat loss, but your body will decide for itself where it wants to take the weight off. Eventually it should come from the areas where you carry excess.

I think you could drop 1-2 of your cardio sessions and make them just 20-30 minute strength workouts instead.

Hope that helps,

Coach Jen

I think you should consider adding in at least one more strength training day. It is recommended that people strength train at least 2x a week and then the cardio can be 2-3x a week. I know certain muscle groups need at least 24-48 hours between training sessions. I'll be honest though, I usually do some kind of abdominal training everyday unless I feel like those muscles need a rest. I also usually do some kind of strength training workout everyday, just focusing on different areas. You could train upper body one day and then lower body the next day. I had a personal trainer recommend that to me.

I am doing about 30 min. of cardio a day, with one day of strength training and 1 day of ab workout. I was wondering if I should increase the number if days for my abs. I know you shouldn't do it every day, but I really need to lose inches from around my waist! I would like some input on my weekly routine. Thank you!
Mon- Strength training / Cardio
Tue- Cardio
Wed- Cardio
Thu- Cardio
Fri- Cardio
Sat- Abs /Cardio
Sun- Rest day
I workout at home, so I try to keep it interesting and do different videos each day for my cardio. I am afraid if I stick with one program, I will get bored.
