If doing the drive would make you workout then its worth it! I drive the 15 mins to ballys when i have a gym IN my complex, because i like ballys better!

I just put my family gym membership on hold and that club was only about 5 min away. Now I go to 24 hr fitness that is about 20 min away. I am dedicated though and will go 6 days a week.

I did ask for a 2 week pass first to make sure I could handle the distance. You might ask for a pass first before signing up for a membership. I asked for 2 weeks and they gave it to me. I thought that was adequate for making a decision.

When I moved from my tae kwon do school it took me about 40 minutes to get there (thanks, rush hour traffic!) and 20 to get home. It was a little over a gallon of gas round trip. It's why I stopped going.

You just have to weigh what you want more: a shorter commute or a better facility. You can sign up for the Y, but if you don't like it, you're not going to go. If the distance isn't daunting and you'll make the drive, by all means, go to the farther one!

Mine is 10 min from me. Definately worth the extra time if it motivates you!

I drive 20 minutes each way to my YMCA, it's worth it for me. They offer everything I like. They have amazing child care and I have great friends there.

I used to belong to an awesome gym that I loved. It was fairly close, 12 minutes. We have moved, though, and we dropped our membership because it was expensive and now it's a further drive. But I am finding that I miss it a lot. I cannot get myself motivated to only workout at home. I like having a gym also. Now that I only have my DVD's to rely on I am finding that I'm totally bored and I don't hardly workout anymore. I'm wondering if I should convince my husband that we should get the membership back. The problem is, it's quite a distance. My neighbors and friends go to a YMCA that is only 3 blocks away from my house. You'd think it would be a no-brainer to joiner there, but I don't like this particular one. It's nothing like my old gym. The equipment isn't as new and I don't like the childcare. My old gym would probably take me 20-23 minutes to get to. That's 40+ minutes round trip. Is that too far? How far would you travel to a gym you love? Or should I just suck it up and go to the "Y" that is super close?
