Sometimes those messages are poorly given out, but there is also a problem with this "love myself no matter what" idea. Yes, we should love ourselves, especially for the good that we bring into the world. But, we can still love ourselves, yet, strive to do better. That's the message that needs to be put out there.

I loved my parents while they were alive, but I did not love their life choices of drinking and smoking. It eventually killed them. If one is over weight and eating poorly, they may also be killing themselves. That does not mean they can't love themselves, but it should encourage them to stop any habits that are unhealthy. Carrying a little extra weight or not having the perfect body shape is not the issue here. It's being overly heavy and unfit enough that one KNOWS they are damaging their body and lifestyle.

So, whether or not one can "not love someone they do not know" isn't what one needs to focus on. It's, "am I taking care of this person that I know and love?" That's the question we need to answer. Keep the Faith

I can safely say I still don't know who I am..Do I love myself? I think so I respect myself, not yet I don't. Do I know I can, will, and am getting where I want to be. Damn straight! :)

That is such a true statement, and I hate commercials like that. We are worthy of love and respect no matter our size. And like you said, if you don't love yourself now, you won't love yourself at any size. We are worth it!

I saw a weight loss commercial today that made this statement: How can you love someone you do not know? It was referring to the fat person she use to be. For one quick second I almost related with her. Then I snapped myself back into reality. I am fat and I am still worth loving. Once we can remember to love ourself first then we can spend time focusing on the weightloss. Do not let these commercials get inside your head. I am a wife of 9 years with an attractive husband who loves my "fat self". I have children that love me and God who loves me for me. I am very lovable!!!! I refuse to hate myself at size 22 because being a size 0 will not change that hate. I look forward to my weight loss journey but I will continue to love myself through it all.
