Rock bottom ....I think you did great as you got up, got yourself to the gym and went on the treadmill.

As SHERYLDS wrote: part of your membership is having them instruct you on the equipment etc.

Go back to the gym or call the Gym Manager and ask for a guided tour and you will feel much better about the equipment usage.

Hey - you moved for 30 minutes!! That isn't rock bottom. Don't be so hard on yourself. Not everyone likes gyms, and there are a lot of healthy and fit people who don't go to them...

Well, at least you seem to have turned this around! That seems far from rock bottom, you're reaching out for that hand up anyway, so even if this is it, you won't be there long.

I've never stepped foot in a gym, so I'd be just as clueless as you!

Rock bottom would have been NOT going to the gym and not moving yourself forward to better health. I am fortunate to have a friend who offered me help. He set up a routine for me that includes doing 2 muscle groups each time I hit the weights. One day I do biceps and shoulders, the next triceps and back, and finally chest and legs. I just rotate those and stay on track, changing up what I do for those exercises. Try to find a system where you do something in a rotation. Keep a journal too! Good luck!

You didn't hit rock bottom, that lousy Gym did! Someone would have noticed you and offered to help you right away, if it was a good Gym, and not one just out for the money. Personal trainers at a gym are pretty much a gyp, I know two of them, they know themselves that is what they are. Get some help from your friend, and go back, if you don't get good service, post it on their face book site and find another, or gradually do your own thing!!! Think lifetime, can you afford to be perplexed so often for the rest of your life?

good for you, but I think if you looked hard a yourself you would be proud to go to the gym and let this place know you mean business, do not be afraid to ask other people for help at the gym if you need to know how to exercise with a machine emoticon

You can also look on Youtube or even on Sparkpeople to find video's about how to do certain exercises or even use certain exercise machines!

Keep it up - I feel SO much better after dropping 20 pounds! You will too!

If you have a membership, give the gym a go..... everyone was new at one time and can relate to how you feel!

if you joined a gym...part of your fee goes to getting instructions on using the equipment. Even if you need to make an appointment to have an instructor show you how to use the equipment, you still get what you pay for. They would rather spend the time showing you how to use it, than get sued. As for personal trainers...they are nice to have but not always necessary. In a perfect world, we get what we need immediately when we want it and when we need it...but in the real world, we just have to wait our turn.

keep going..

What a mixed reaction!

Be proud of yourself for taking not only the first step but the second!
You went to the gym. You worked out. You realized you needed help and reached out. What a wonderful accomplisnment!

And a good cry was a wonderful stress reducer! Hang in there. Before long you will master the gym equipment. Watch some videos to learn how to use it and ask the staff to demo how to use the equipment safely. That is what they are there for.

Today was my first day at the gym, i walked/ran the track for 30 minutes and then walked into the gym to use the equipment and felt so stupid and lost and walked out! I talked to the front desk to ask about a personal trainer but they are $60 an hour! wow i don't have that kind of money. I got home and you'd think i would be proud of myself for going but not i had a mental break down and cried for an hour! Maybe that is what i needed because it's never happened before and it got me motivated to contact a friend who is a nutritionist and personal trainer who can give me some great advice and i went and bought a better seat for my bike so i can get riding! Here is hoping that hitting rock bottom today means there is only one way to go now and that is UP!!
