I feel your pain! I have 2 year old twins and yes its hard getting them ready to go anywhere...they won't stay in the stroller long enough for me to get a workout...I tried that and they constantly dropped things or tried climbing out of the stroller so often that I was stopping more than I was walking..

Then I thought about joining the Y but my daughter is autistic and I don't think that she (or the Y staff) would like it too much if I left her there in the child care center because she would cry the entire I do the videos. I get up with plenty of time beofre they get \up in the moring and I do 30-40 min of cardio then strength training. You don't need a lot of space for the videos or equipment. I have a swiss ball and a pair of dumbells...thats all I need!

Try the videos...they make a great workout and they're very convenient. I pick two cardio videos per day and do them each 2-3 times depending on their length. before I get to the cool down part I start it over to get in more of the cardio =)

I had a gym membership to the Y, which has childcare also... but I didn't use it after I had Ethan 10 months ago. We have a treadmill in our basement which I've started using. I am following a Couch to 5k program, and I've set up the Pack 'n Play in the basement, so if I don't get a good nap out of the kid to exercise, I can put him in there and let him play. Sometimes he gets bored and starts crying, but considering I am literally two feet away and I know he's fine, I just let him cry. I'm not big on crying it out, but he's getting to the tantrum stage and I figure a few minutes of crying isn't going to kill him. Especially if I'm spending that time keeping myself healthy so I can be around for him for a long time. :)

I totally feel for you! I have a 21 month old and a 9 year old that keep me on my toes all of the time. I like the idea of getting up early, but it just does not happen! Going to bed later is hard to because that cuts into my DH time. I like the 10 minute here and there ideas and have a Just My Size yoga DVD calling my name (for 2 years now) that I want to give a try. Keep us updated on what you do try and how it works! And, thanks to everyone else for their suggestions!

You really have to fit it in when they're sleeping. Which may mean get up early or go to bed later. But you need to do it.

I don't belong to a gym (would love to, though!), but here is how I squeeze in exercise with my two little ones (3 and 1):

1. Spark 10-minute fitness videos. They are free, you don't have to borrow/return them to the library (who needs an extra errand?) and they're only ten-minutes long. Crank out three of these during the day, and you're good to go. I can even do them with my children awake since they can usually let me have ten minutes! haha

2. Exercise video during nap time. This is my least favourite, because it requires using up precious down time, but sometimes it's my only choice.

3. Bike trailer. So...maybe not for you in Phoenix during the summer, but once the weather gets more tolerable, I found this to be awesome exercise that I can actually do with the children in my care. They enjoy a ride in the trailer, I bike with resistance. I also use it to run errands, like grocery store, pharmacy, etc.

Well, I am a member at Mountainside Fitness, and it has a wonderful daycare there. It's just so hard sometimes to work in a workout with my daughter's schedule, but I've decided enough is enough and I can't let that be an excuse anymore!! 175 by July 1st!!

I understand what you mean exactly. I have a 13 month old daughter, and live in the crazy Phoenix heat, too. It's oppressive even to think about going outside in the summer.

Do you live anywhere near a Lifetime Fitness? Their daycare is truly exceptional. My older daughter loves it so much that she asks me if I want to go to the gym! It can be hard to get appointments in the infant room, but our little ones will be able to go into the general population in just a few months. I started being able to go a LOT more once my older daughter didn't need an appointment in the infant room.

DVDs and working out at home simply don't work for me. I need that gym facility to have success. I'm just doing what I can, going after DH gets home from work mostly, for just a few more months. It helps to have set classes I want to go to each week, so my husband and I both have the expectation that I'll go to the gym at specific times. He makes sure he's home to help out, and I feel guilty if I don't go. ;-)

I have four kids ages 4 to 10. I've been most consistent when I get up before everyone else and just go while everyone else sleeps. I put my workout gear out the night before and remind myself how great I feel all day when I started out with exercise.

Having little ones does make it tough. Some of the things I do to try to get activity in with my little one are:

1. Go walk laps at the mall. He likes to see all the people.

2. When he naps, throw on an exercise video

3. I have hubby put him to bed so I can get a quick work out in.

4. A local park here has baby boot camp where the exercises are designed to do with him in his stroller.

I am having a similar problem. Jogging strollers are great for getting some exercise in and spending quality time. My son (13 mos.) has started walking a few months ago. I walk to the park and run around with him for about an hour. He loves it. I don't know if that's feasible in 100 degree heat though. Is your DH/BF able to take care of her for a little bit while you work out? Also, search the internet for exercises you can do with her.

Honestly, sometimes the best we can do is throw on some funky music and dance while we get the housework done! You'll burn more calories than you think, and maybe even get a few bubbly smiles from that little girl. ;)

When my boys were younger and I was at home, I purchased a couple of really good workout DVDs and then as soon as they'd go down for a nap, I'd dash downstairs for my workout. It really worked well.

The best thing for me was getting an elliptical for our house- after he goes to bed I can run for a bit and go to bed feeling good. I try to fit it in during the day sometimes as well- when he'll let me (he's two and half and has decided naps are a thing of the past).

How can I find the time to go to the gym and stay consistent?? I was doing so good in the beginning, then everything just gets in the way... it's hard enough getting my daughter ready to go ANYWHERE, much less to the gym daycare! I want to work out and lose weight so bad, I just feel like they're aren't enough hours in the day sometimes!! (And right now isn't really possible to exercise outdoors or go walking with her, it's over 100 degrees here in Phoenix right now.) emoticon
