Spark has a blog on 150 calorie or less cocktails...

An easy one I like (that tastes surprisingly good) is coconut rum with Diet Coke (or even better, Coke Zero).

Coconut rum is between 50 and 60 calories an ounce (depending on the brand), and has a nice flavor. Mixing it with anything reasonably low calorie (or no calorie) makes for a guilt-free treat! The diet coke and rum was my go-to drink on my beach vacation. Didn't want to drink all my calories!

Not that you can order this when you go out, but my old roommate had a juicer and we put it to work making kale-apple-carrot juice vodka martinis!

I think vodka is about the lowest-calorie liquor, so vodka with soda water and lime might work.

My favorite drink when going out these days is tequila with grapefruit juice. I like it better with ruby red grapefruit, but it's OK with regular grapefruit juice as well. It's just very tangy, so it will keep you from drinking too fast, as well.

My favorite summer drink is a winerita....its a cross between a margarita and red wine..sweet and tangy, yum! I also love sangria (wine infused with fruit), frozen sangria, red wine, and screwdrivers. All these are probably pretty calorie laden though (other than plain red wine).

I think tequila with soda and a splash of lime juice might be the way for me to go if I go out!

And luckily we don't eat if we go to a bar, it's pricey and takes all the fun out of drinking.

Any other ideas?

The other thing to be cautious about when drinking is not only the calories in what you're drinking, but the fact that there may be less than stellar food ordered, and your lowered inhabitions towards eating them. I eat worse when I drink a lot, I find.

I get Citron and soda with a splash of cranberry and a lime. I have them serve it in a pint glass so i get extra soda water and it takes longer to drink. I usually have 2 if I'm out. They are yummy!

These are all great ideas! Unfortunately, I'm not that into wine OR beer (I know, I know, I'm ridiculous) and really just prefer hard liquor.

I might just have to stick with tequila shots. I thought there weren't that many calories in liquor? Like 60 or something?

Drinking while trying to lose weight is going to be amusing, since I'll probably eat a little less than I normally would before I go out. At least I'll need less alcohol! emoticon

EDIT: I just looked it up and there's 100 calories per shot in most liquors. YIKES! Good thing I don't drink that often.

I like to have a drink or two sometimes and ussually I get a wine what ever wine sounds good ask server to cut with seltzer water..its refreshing :)..or if I want a fancy drink with alcohol I usually ask them to cut the juice and syrup in half and add...seltzer water. It has bubbles and no flavor or cals.

For the best lower cal options, stick to light beer or wine. You could also order X liquor and diet soda as well. If you don't care about calories, I love a good white Russian, amaretto (stone) sour or on the rocks margarita. I also enjoy Jack and (Diet) Coke quite a bit. You could also indluge with a house specialty. I don't really drink too much, and, lately, when I have, it's been wine or beer.

I rarely go out but when I do I like to indulge a little bit. My favorite cocktail is usually a whiskey sour or a tequila sunrise, or even just a tequila and orange juice. I don't like to go heavy on the alcohol, usually, because I'm kind of a light weight (not literally, of course).

So, if you order a cocktail, what do you usually get? I'm planning on going to a new bar soon and want something good to order!
