Others gave great suggestions for non perishable snacks. I take a small insulated lunch bag filled with chilled healthy snacks. It doesn't take much room and ice packs last all day.

nuts, individual nut butter packets, seeds, just veggies brand dehydrated fruits and veggies, applesauce, pear sauce, fruit cups [get the kind packed in juice, not syrup], granola bars, fruit leather, crackers [plain, with cheese, or with peanut butter], and beyond that head to the lunchbox aisle in your local grocery store and start reading labels to see what is available.

Try some dried fruit. You can find amazing variety of dried fruit and they keep for a very long time.

At my local food co op you can get all sorts of dried fruits. My personal loves are dried whole bananas (somehow they are better than fresh bananas!), mangos, pineapple rings, cranberries and cherries. They also have apricots, oranges, prunes, pears, apples, papayas, etc. etc. I also find that because they are quite chewy it takes me a little while to get through one piece so I end up eating quite a lot less.

If you are interested, you can invest in buying a food dehydrator and make your own dried fruit. In the end I am not sure if this saves money (I don't have one) but if there are particular fruits you love but can't find for sale you can dry your own.

What healthy, non perishable snacks can I keep in my car and in my desk drawer for when I feel like at snacking at work or on the road. At the moment, I am always tempted to buy (and mostly always give in to buying) chocolate or crisps from the many cafe's at work...
