I've in the process of trying to recover/function from a severe auto accident, mostly working on the ability to walk without falling the past couple of years, move gained a lot of weight both from my injuries, struggling with my mobility and emotional eating, I've tried all diets including all meal replacement shakes. I've always lived with my IBS for decades only to find out I have celiac disease. Since then, I'm trying to change all foods. I started with dairy. I use unsweetened Almond original and Vanilla. I just received Ideal Shake. I used ice, frozen berries, tart cherry juice (told that might help inflammation), berry extract and accidentally used Vanilla Almond milk. What a surprise, I cannot taste anything at ALL but berries & doesn't upset my stomach! I'm now really encourage now I'm using therapeutic heated salt water pool (some exercise) and hoping meal replacement shacks I will finally see weight lost made harder in my 50s with severe disabilities. Every other shacks I couldn't drink due to taste, smell, and stomach pains. My MD recommend a different meal replacement and nothing I included masked the taste. Now I hope I well finally lose weight! I was also advised to use honey and/or stevia as my sweetener

I think shakeology uses fructose and stevia as sweeteners.
Fructose would be a calorie providing sweetener.
Stevia would be a non-caloric artificial sweetener

I've tried the vanilla ones -- 4 times so far. They taste pretty good although I add strawberries and frozen bananas so not sure how they taste alone. A couple of times I really felt an appetite reduction. A couple of other times I didn't. I've only used them as meal replacements (breakfast) twice a week for two weeks and have lost a pound but the shakes alone wouldn't account for that. I'm going to keep going with them and see how it goes. What I do like is they only have 1 gram of sugar, 5g fiber, 11g protein and 70% rda vitamins and minerals. I've used Slimfast many times over the years as a base for breakfast shakes. Like it, too (chocolate royale is my favorite) but it has a lot more sugar. One thing I don't like about Idealshape is that you can only buy direct from them and they force you to get a shaker cup with every order.

Muscle Milk (unless there's another variety of it that I'm not aware of) is a protein supplement, not a meal replacement. It's a way to get extra protein in your diet if you need it, but it doesn't contain the nutrients necessary to replace a meal.

I keep a canister of Herbalife for those "on the go moments" where you just really need something to eat quick that is healthy. Granted, they do not keep you full very long. I usually add a scoop of protein powder to mine.

Good luck with those. I know people really into beachbody that do the shakeology, but personally, I can't do it. It is a temporary thing, and weight loss is a permanent issue. I have to start now habits that I plan on keeping with me for the rest of my life. So I have. More whole foods, less processed and sugars. But, i still eat stuff that is considered "bad" even during my weight loss. I eat way less than I probably will later in life when I am maintaining, but that is okay, because it is how I am teaching myself moderation.

Meal replacement shakes have been shown to help with weight loss. The are basically the same....things like Ensure, Boost, Slimfast, HMR shakes, Medifast, Carnation Instant Breakfast, etc, etc. It is a blend of protein, fat, carbs and about 30% of your vitamin-mineral needs. These shakes are just a way to control food intake, calorie intake, portions, etc.

If you want to try this, it is fine. Find one that you enjoy the taste and fits with your budget.

But keep the weight off, you will need to learn how to restructure your eating plan and eating environment when you return to a more traditional style of eating...or will regain the weight you lost.

I know many are skeptically about meal replacement shakes...I was too. Tried Slimfast years ago...hated it! I have been doing comparing research and Idealshape seems to be a very healthy option with great reviews....looking for people who know anyone or are drinking them...what do you think? Thanks so much!
