You are correct that it's too soon for the weight gain to be muscle. What's happening is that anytime you start a new exercise program, your muscles tend to retain water. It's a temporary thing, but will cause an increase on the scale.
Hang in there! You're on the right track!

I started out almost a year ago weighing 151 pounds and prior to exercise I got down to about 132-134 depending on the day. I just started adding exercise to my diet and instead of losing to try and get off the last few pounds I stepped on the scale today and I have gained 5 pouonds! I've only worked out 4 days so far in 6 days since starting. I have read that after a few weeks you can gain muscle but it's to soon for me to do that right? Can anyone explain what's going on because it is very discouraging and seeing even a little weight gain is causing me too panic and want to quit.
