There is a youtube video that has really inspired me...You should check it out! If you google "What does five pounds of fat look like?" the video will show up as a result. You can watch this and see with your own eyes what five pounds of fat looks like. THEN, you can tell yourself how awesome you are for doing that FOUR TIMES! Keep up the good work. It's hard to keep going when you focus on how much you still have to lose. Instead, focus on what you have to gain (a healthy life, less joint pain, longer life expectancy, etc.) Keep going!

" So even though my best friend says she doesn't see it, even though my mom commented on how big I still am"

OH MY GOSH I actually got a little bit mad reading this!

Sorry, your starting weight and mine is almost identical, and our current weight is also somewhat close (I'm about 10# heavier than you right now)... I'm sure our appearance has changed similarly, and I have to say, there is NO WAY that your loss can't be seen! And how DARE anyone, including good old mom, critique you that way!

Oh, mothers! Mine, well, she seems to notice the slightest *gain* - she's careful not to comment too much, but oh, I know she notices it packing on! Which led me to believe she is very aware and attuned to my size and changes in it. So imagine my surprise when, after not seeing her for 3 months and having dropped about 25#, she... didn't comment. I thought she was perhaps being polite (as she typically is) and had noticed but was just not going to draw attention to it. So finally I made a little remark, like, "welllllll can you tell I have lost a little!" - I was kind of hoping (and, tbh, expecting), this ice-breaker to be followed with "oh, YES, it's SO OBVIOUS! you have changed a lot in 3 months!" but... that did not happen. It was more like "oh, so, you are trying to lose weight now? good for you!" - the way she said it, indicated to me that she actually had not noticed the difference.

Sigh!!!!!!!!!! That was actually a little bit of a blow to my fragile ego! I wanted gushing!!!!!

Anyways - if you like, go take a look at my "start" and "current" pictures (on my sparkpage and also in a recent blog), I bet that as a 3rd-party looking in on *me* - you will see the difference in *me* - just as I'm sure that any of us would look at pictures of *you*, and see the difference in *you.*

Now for the OP, sorry I got sidelined there a lil bit, but, I hope you take from this, that yes it DOES take a while to notice changes in yourself and for others to notice the changes you make, and yes, you are not alone, we ALL experience these moments of frustration and futility... getting past them without throwing it all away, is the biggest challenge. Keep telling yourself, this time, you will try something new and JUST KEEP GOING where in the past you would have used it as an excuse to stop. Just keep going!!!!!!!

I feel the same way you do, sometimes. Just the other day I saw myself in a mirror and felt disgusted, thinking that I still look so fat and gross after losing 50lbs.

I really had to talk to myself rather sternly after that. If I give up, I will NEVER get to where I want to be. I'll gain back all 50lbs and probably an extra 15 for good measure- It happens every time I give up on being healthy. So even though my best friend says she doesn't see it, even though my mom commented on how big I still am, even though I see the fatty in the mirror, I have to remember that giving up means I'll never be the size 8 I want to be. I'll be on blood pressure meds for life, I'll be a high risk pregnancy when/if I have kids, I'll have fatty liver and be more likely to get cancer.

So I am not giving up, not today. Not next week. Not a month or 6 months from now. This is more than how I look or what the number on the scale says. This is my LIFE. And damn it, I am going to be around to live it.

Congrats on a job well done...just remember though that this will be the way you will be living for the rest of your life--healthy living is a way of living--it's not just a temporary means to get to your goal weight only to go back to the way you once lived before you started this journey. This is why I try to tell people that if you are overwhelmed, it's OK to step back just a bit until you make these new habits a part of your every day life--after all most of us have spent a lifetime making not so healthy choices, we can't expect to change them overnight.

JBIRDIEJ, can I just say- you have lost TWENTY POUNDS! That is excellent! That is great! You should be totally proud of all that hard work! You worked out today- even if you yell at your video, you DID IT. I cried and called JM a Bi%^$ the last time I tried 30 day shred.

Don't get down, think about how if you'd not done this, you would be 20 pounds heavier right now!

I am losing weight. Others have commented on it. But I am not seeing a difference. I am down almost 20 lbs. i know I have a lot of weight to go still but today I just feel like its pointless and it will never happen.

So far I have been good. Although i was yelling at my workout video every step of the way this morning.

I always sabotage myself and really do not want to do that this time.
