Years ago when we lived in Colorado Springs, I found a set of coins for the birth year of myself and my husband -- paid $5.00 for each set which are worth 20 times that now!

Ahh I finally have one. Was roaming around a thrift shop last weekend, they had a "ten cent" section, I guess for things that had "been around awhile" and were taking up space in the shop... well, one of the pink-tagged ten cent items was a really well-constructed garment bag. Ten cents! Those things are at least fifty bucks to buy new!

Also got some small ovenproof casserole dishes (i.e. for single-serving lasagne) and a cherry pitter and a *good* lemon zester... it was a really productive trip, and I got change back from a five... :)

a couple of weeks ago, I was in my local Goodwill looking for books. didn't find any. However, I did find two beautiful hand blown martini glasses. These were more like pieces of art glass than a typical martini glass. I checked the bottom and they were etched with the artist's name. Each glass was $2.99. I bought them and when I got home, I searched on the artist.

I found the martini glasses ! And yes, they were designed by a glass blower in Virginia. Turns out, brand new, each of those glasse is $82.50 EACH. The ones I bought were made in 2008 and are in mint condition.

I use thrift shops as my bookstores! I NEVER buy books full price, you can buy more of them when they are cheaper at the thrift shop!

I also find my vases there for about 25cents. Makes cheap and easy centerpieces!

I never find anything cool at the thrift store everything here is overpriced. Like $16 for Walmart brand shorts.

Recently picked up a pair of Vigoss Studio jean shorts at a Goodwill for $7. When I was trying them on I reached in the pocket and found a crumpled up wad of bills totaling $19. I bought them and then had money left over. Ha Ha!

Also got on craigslist a free fire pit. It was nasty! I restored it and it looks and works awesome! Nice find for free!

I also picked up on craigslist free a fake Christmas tree! We always cut our own, but this year going with fake. Tired of wasting a tree and the bugs and spiders and tramping through mud and rain to get one. The fake one we got is awesome. It was used in a studio for picture backdrop. It was a high-end tree! I really love the free section on craigslist. I am always finding great stuff on there.

Thanks to all those that give stuff away free! One man's trash is another man's treasure!

I recently bought an antique cabinet with windows, however the glass was missing. Repainted it, bought stained glass for the windows. $45. One person's junk, now my treasure!

i just wore one of them today. a lovely skirt that is so different, and pretty. so many compliments... and though it seems too dressy to wear to something not "special" i wore it to the opera rehearsal, then we went for a hot dog and to the movies. people were apparently looking at us funny, according to my boyfriend...

people can be so funny sometimes.

Day before yesterday somebody left at least a dozen ladies' blouses and men's casual shirts STILL WITH TAGS on the free bench! Unfortunately nothing my size. They were all different brands; I think someone must be getting job lots from a liquidator for a used clothing store somewhere, and bringing the remnants down here for some reason.

Of course, somebody also brought two boxes of dirty junk that should have gone in the trash-- empty cans, crusty paintbrushes, old half-used spiral notebooks, and what looks like cow vertebrae. Ick. I'm the nearest neighbor, so if it's still there tomorrow I guess I'd better pitch it.

I'm always shopping the local Good Will on senior discount day - I look for throw pillows to recover. Whoever does the pricing prices all pillows $5. Some are throwaways, but I have a collection of very expensive ones (I'm talking $80 in dept. stores) that look brand new and are too good to recover!

My mother once found a dirt-encrusted old lamp at a yard sale for $10 or $20. When she cleaned it she discovered it was a signed Tiffany appraised at $3K! Unfortunately for me, she sold it. emoticon

The area Salvation Army stores have half price on clothing every Wednesday. My weight has fluctuated through several sizes and that's where I get almost all my clothes. Best find was one of my favorite dresses for $1; one of my goals is to be able to wear it next Christmas.

Recently I found a genuine Burberry wool suit in perfect condition for about $10; a new one now would be somewhere around $2000. My SO wasn't interested so someone else got a great find.

My new find is a brand new out of the box electric tortilla press. I paid $12.00 for it and just looked it up online and it sells for 70.00 or more everywhere else. I made homemade tortillas on it yesterday and yummo!

My favorite find from a thrift store was a Studebaker Kleenex box still in the original box with the hardware in the baggie still manufacture grade.. It had a serial number on it and everything in it.. I thought it was cool, didn't know what it even was.. paid .50 cents for it.

After when I got it home and did research on it I turned around and stuck it on Ebay..

It sold over $500.00 LOL

A great profit but I don't think I will ever get that lucky again lolol

Anarie that is cool. I often put nice things out by the mail boxes with free signs on them and they are gone the next time I go outside. The mail boxes are by my driveway so I am not or shoudn't be annoying neighbors since it is by my property. I have noticed another neighbor placed a few things there once too with a free sign.

I don't even have to go to a thrift store! The little town where I'm living has a "free bench" in front of the old general store, where people do sort of a silent swap meet. Yesterday I got a pair of Doc Marten sandals that look like they've never been worn, a Levi jean jacket, and two pounds each of navy beans and pinto beans. The sandals alone would have been at least $100, and I got them free.

I do contribute, though. This free bench is where I took most of my bigger clothes when I lost my weight, and whenever anybody in my family has something extra- like the printer/copier/fax machine that my mom somehow got free with rebates before finding it didn't fit in her computer workstation-- I take it there or to the community center. When I used to come here once a year to visit, about half my truck was packed with donations.

My best finds have been huge sets of REAL Tupperware for only $0.25 a piece! Amazing--I guess people don't realize Tupperware has a lifetime guarantee, and damaged pieces will be replaced for free! Score.

I got a great frame movie poster. It is "What Movie...Whose Line" it is huge and I got it at the GoodWill for 10.00. I have it in the living room next to the entertainment center.

Not exactly what I wanted, but it will work great! $3.00 well spent! I always find old CD's and great books too. Workout DVD's are also a great find to spice up my workouts!

My last two finds are a brand new SRT Viper car motorized car my grandson can drive, it sells sells for $159.99 it is in box, but box has some damage which I would not need anyways. I paid 90.00 at Goodwill and saved 70 bucks. We tried it l all out and everything works, there is zero damage. I cannot wait to put some cool Batman stickers on it for my grandson. He will get this for either his birthday or Christmas this December.

I bought a brand new in box the cool touch griddle that is totally immersible, cooking space seems larger then average, and it has a tray that you can put bacon or what have you in to keep warm under the grill separate from the drip tray. I paid 20.00 and price ranges from $39.99. to $49.99 elsewhere, this is one of my married daughters Christmas presents.
