Studies have shown there is no magic in grapefruit. If you can tolerate it, it is a good thing to add to a healthy diet. It won't cause any magical weight loss.

The Grapefruit Diet, remember it from the old Dinah Shore morning show in the 1950', black and white tv. Then the old Gypsy Rose Lee morning tv show, 1960's, still black and white tv, Donahue, Mike Douglas, shall I go on?? One of the dumbest diets in history, you lose some weight, but do you know anyone in the world who is still eating just grapefruit before each meal still in 2012? I'm going to be 66 next month, have lost weight countless number of times, and still at it, and will be until I'm gone.............NO MAGIC people!! This food thing we have is an addiction, wish some of the "experts" would finally realize it.

That is one diet I have never tried. (And will not try)All the fat and grease from the eggs and meat. Then the acid from the grapefruit. I would be one sick girl

This is the grapefruit juice diet. U have the grapefruit juice. U also eat eggs any meat u want and veggies. There r a few other things u can have. I worked wit a lady who did this and lost weight. This is jus a jump start cuz I have made a change and I workout but it's not coming off.

OMG I just have to interrupt with a funny story...My dad used to be a raging alcoholic, and he's been thin his whole life, but he gained a bunch of weight while drinking...So he decides to go on this "Grapefruit diet" (Of course he did it all wrong), but he'd sit there, drink ALL day, then try to go eat a grapefruit but he'd be so drunk he couldn't even hold it! LOL needless to say, he got better and lost weight the healthy way while sober, very proud of him!...Just had to say it cause the diet reminded me of it..

Not that the grapefruit diet in particular was involved, but ... yesterday I was watching a show about food and eating that experimented with some girls doing various "detox diets" for one week. All of them lost weight, one up to 4kg!

All but one of them had all of the weight back on again one week after finishing it.

Super restrictive and detox diets like this "work" in the very short term. Because you're eating very little every day you drop weight very quickly. However, it's rarely "fat" that you lose. Instead you lose a lot of water, and likely some muscle tissue, bone density, and even organ tissue! The things you want to KEEP.

Stick to a controlled and apppropriate calorie deficit daily and a healthy balanced diet with moderate exercise - it always works and the weight doesn't come back (unless you go back to back habits).

Many people have done the grapefruit diet---it has been around for years.
There is no "truth" to claims that grapefruits help burn body fat, etc.
Grapefruits are low calorie and this is the majority of one's food intake---therefore the diet is dangerously low calorie and not providing the nutrients needed.

Of course the weight is regained as soon as one returns to their typical eating style

I'm sure while a few folks on SP might have tried this crash diet in the past (or some other kind that restricts you to one type of food), you're not going to receive any support or encouragement about that type of program. Hopefully you already know that no crash diet works (at least in the long run anyway) and that losing weight and keeping it off requires changing your whole life. No one can live off of one type of food alone, and quite frankly, why would you want to?

Again, hoping you know all this and were just curious...
