I give them only to those I know will use them yet I don't really care for them unless specifically asked by someone which stores do I frequent.

I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this but Amazon.com has great gift cards where they have videos of elves throwing snowballs at each other or dancing where you can replace the heads of the elves with photos of loved ones. They are great my family loves them.

I love gift cards. I would rather get a gift card over a gift. Most people (bless their hearts) get you what they want you to have not what you like. I can't stand those "baskets" of smelly stuff"
I love getting them as long as they are from stores I frequent. I celebrated my 40th birthday last year and I wound up with $150 in Scheel's gift cards because my husband thought I bought my running shoes there. I don't.

I LOVE them.
I try to only give them to people who like to receive them.
I once gave a really cute gift card to someone as a birthday gift, and I found out 2 or 3 years later that they never spent it because it was a cute card that they didn't want to relinquish.
Now I only give them to people I know will use them. The kids love the restaurant gift cards because it gives them the go-ahead to eat out (something they wouldn't spend their own money on because they can't afford it), so those always go over big.
My husband's niece and nephews used to love getting cards to stores like WalMart... their local mall had gift cards too, good towards purchases at any stores there. The kids loved it - they could go on a shopping rampage with their own money! LOL

I'd rather receive one rather than something i don't want. But I hate giving them. I take a lot of satisfaction in finding that perfect gift for a person.
Now that everyone in both the Man's family and mine are adults, we've all chosen to quit with the gifts for any occasion. When it got to be everyone giving and receiving gift cards, it basically became an exchange of cash --- what's the point?
Now the occasions that used to be focused on gifts (with all of the stress and hassle of shopping and choosing and all that other nonsense that precede the actual occasion) are instead focused on enjoying each other's company.
Works for us.

I love gift cards, giving or receiving !!
They aren't as impersonal as some people may believe. I know we are all grateful for every single gift we receive. However, I really have wondered what some of my family/friends were thinking when they bought a particular item. I don't need that many candles ! or scented satchels. LOL !!
The most popular gift cards I give are for Whole Foods or Trader Joes. You can't go wrong giving a gift of healthy food.

I love gift cards because 99% of the time, I will be at a loss for ideas in December, but then in Feb, I come up with something I really want so then I can use the gift card. It is like an ongoing gift.

I give and receive gift cards for birthdays, anniversaries and different occasions. I think it makes very good sense. Instead of giving people stuff that they likely don't need or want, a gift card allows them to get what they truly need. It also allows the person to do what they want to do. I make no apologies for that.

YES!! It is the only gift I truly appreciate as a gift. I love gift cards to movies or restaurants.

I like gift cards because you can get many items at 50% off after Christmas so you get up to twice as much after the holidays.

Yes! The Visa gift cards are the best!

Great idea -- our recipients use them & we enjoy them also.

I too feel a little guilty because they are sooo easy...but I love getting them (as long it is not to some place I would never get to.) and I have never had a bad response to giving them. I usually gave them to my teenage grandson to the store he likes most GAME STOP ! I think it is a step up from just putting some money in a card and I can not afford for my gift to never be used (such a waste of my hard earned money) ..re- gifting I don't mind but I want to give something the receiver wants/can use.
I don't like giving them but have in the past when the idea of shopping for the perfect gift was exhausting. (I suffer from depression.) But when I do give them, I try to get one to a store I know they will like and use.
I don't mind receiving gift cards but I frequently forget to use them. Even if I forget to use them, I appreciate the thought behind them.
It depends. Sometimes, I have felt like it was a cop out, but other years, I have asked for them because I was trying to make a gadget purchase. I generally don't mind them as long as they are to places that I actually like or will shop.
I don't give them unless asked or if they are small as part of a stocking stuffer or something like that.
Giving- I'd rather give something else as a gift but have given gift cards on occasion. I feel lazy when I give gift cards.
Receiving- I appreciate the gesture that someone is thinking of me wants to give me something. Honestly though, I would prefer that they simply give me nothing but their good wishes. If they feel they have to give me a physical gift then I'd rather they just give cash so I can decide where I would actually like to use it as opposed to a specific store or restaurant.

I like them also, but I like to specialize by giving a person a gift card that they will use eventually!

I would just give someone cash. So many gift cards are never used. So I don't give them anymore
Love to get them but feel bad about GIVING them because it IS so easy to do.

I hate giving giftcards, but with teens in particular it is hard to buy real gifts.

I LOVE gift cards because I really hate when I get a gift that I don't want or didn't ask for or frankly don't like (my mother-in-law in particular likes to buy things she likes regardless of what taste we all have) and then have to pretend that I like it or even worse display it at some holiday because she asks about it. I am appreciative of being bought for but I think it is more thoughtful to let people get the things they want/like, especially when the person is hard to buy for.
When I think of all the 'gifts' I have received that got re-gifted or donated, I wish those well meaning friends had given me a gift card instead. Some of the best were gift cards for Amazon. It's a way of giving someone a gift they can really use. If it seems too impersonal...make a batch of cookies to go along with it and put the gift card on top
I like gift cards. I use them for the teens on my gift list especially, as they really like to pick out their own stuff. I don't give gifts to adults for Christmas, but I do use the cards for them on birthdays. I usually don't use gift cards for little one's except to book stores and maybe a favorite restaurant as an add-on to other gifts. They like to be grown-up and use their cards too. One caution I have learned is making sure the cards are to stores, etc., that will still be in business. It' usually money down the drain, if the business closes unexpectedly.

I LOVE both giving and getting gift cards! It is so nice to be able to go somewhere and pick out what I want or go have a nice dinner and not worry about the cost.

We love both giving and getting them. Never had one returned. I try to pick a suitable store for the person. I give my daughter a generous gift card to a clothing store of her choice as well as a nice amount to Starbucks, which she loves. My son also gets a Starbucks one as well as other gifts. People like being able to choose a gift of their choice.

I know a lot of people think it's taking the easy way out of gift buying but I personally love them. I give a lot of gift cards for Christmas and I make a point to make sure I buy them for a store or restaurant I know the recipient loves.
