I dislike the growing over-reliance on GMO crops.

Not because I'm afraid to eat the food - I figure it is probably reasonably "safe for human consumption."

But because of the impact on the environment, of the way it contributes to loss of diversity in seed stock, and the implications for long-term sustainability of the food system.

Your so funny EELPIE. Thanks for making me laugh this morning. I needed it.

I understand the science behind GMOs so I am very comfortable with them as foods. The things that I do not like about GMOs are the business practices that follow them (licenses, no seed saving, overuse of herbicides, etc). I wish that most people would spend a little more time reading about what GMOs are from reputable sources rather than some random blog on the internet that says that they are bad because they are "unnatural".

However, I think that there will always be a demand for heirloom crops as they add variety. Eat what you want, but take the time to make an informed decision about what you consume.

It's funny, I never gave a thought about GMO (or Monsanto, round up, soybeans) until I saw that docu one day on tv.

All I could do was emoticon .

And I don't need to "prove" my feelings about it, I don't need to convince anyone with scientific studies....cause at the end of the day, I don't give a crap what someone else eats.

GMO skeeves me out - that's it.

Like on another thread here (the infamous pop-tart thread) I equate it like this:

I love escargot. O.M.G.

Some people find that revolting.

Know what I say? Then eat something else; that just leaves more escargot for me. Mwaaahaaahaaaa!

Don't mess with Mother Nature. There is too much that science hasn't learned about. Keep what works.

It's just another chemical going into our body that we don't need.

Thank you for your post PSCHIAVONE2 I am all for the labeling of GMO food also. Your post helped me understand if GMO food is safe or not.

I am all for the labeling of GMO food. Since you will never find any "good studies" that show that GMO's do harm, because that would take years and a lot of money to complete. Basically if a food does not kill you within hours of you eating, that food is deemed safe. This is why I think that labeling needs to be informative and not a marketing ploy. Like when a pretzel has fat free in bold letters across the package.

I agree with you IMDADOGGIE, They seem like they are going to be tough to get rid of, but not impossible.

They definitely aren't going into my shopping cart.

I'm hoping there will soon be a whole section in the grocery store that is GMO Free Food emoticon

I don't think they taste good and it really makes me sad that the GMO produce is killing our honey bees and Monarch Butterflies.
If it's killing them what is it doing to us and our children?

I am very concerned about the amount of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides that they use on GM crops and the effect they have on the environment.

I am also not convinced about GM foods long term safety.

However as GM food is not labeled here in Canada I am sol in avoiding it unless I buy all organic foods. Here if a food is organic it is GMO free.

The acronym "GMO", stands for "Genetically modified Organisms, which refers to any food product that has been altered at the gene level.
