I second the water workouts. You have the weight off your legs because the water kind of holds you up; however, you get a GREAT workout.

At first, you could try walking in a pool. Remember, you're pushing a lot of water to walk, so take is nice and slow. You get a GREAT workout without so much weight on your legs. Also, you're out of your shoes. It can be great to strengthen muscles that might help with your feet aching at work.

If you can swim a little, you can mix that in. Walk most of the pool, then swim the last x feet. x being what you're OK with. If it's zero at first, that's A OK!

There are a lot of 10 minute exercises to choose from get you started one of these a day is better then no exercise. If you subscribe you will get weekly notifications when they post a new video. Its Great!

I'm 5'2, started at 188.4 just last Friday. I get the short and heavy, trust me. Imagine hitting boot camp right now - yeah, I about die every time, not literally, but it sure does feel like it. My coach accommodates the workout to what I am capable of doing - she watched me near pass-out on day one. Accommodate your work outs to what you can physically do, don't push or strain yourself to something you are not comfortable - pushing yourself too far beyond your limits will lead to injury.

Maybe hold off on the exercise for now, focus on eating healthy and within your ranges set by SparkPeople (weight loss is 80% nutrition, 20% exercise) and when you drop some pounds, then incorporate some exercise. You never want to do anything that is painful or too uncomfortable!

When I was at my heaviest. 260 :( I just did a lot of walking until I gained some more flexibility. I don't know if that helps, but just an idea.

As others have said, you are simply trying to exercises that your body is not ready to do yet. You should try other types of exercises that better suit your current body shape and fitness level.

Another type of exercise that you might be able to do are ones with an elastic band. Check out some of the videos here on SparkPeople to get an idea of how those work. You can get some bands at stores like Wallmart etc. and DVD's on how to use them are readily available, too

Bands are inexpensive and easy to use.

What about water workouts or an exercise bike? Yoga is good for flexibility and relaxation, but it's neither cardio or strength training. Like others have said, focus on what you can do and don't forget the strength training. Building muscle mass is a great way to boost your metabolism.

Adapt what you want to do with what you CAN do. There are a lot of things I can do now I wasn't able to do before. Yes, bending over was one of them. Just go the furthest you can comfortably do while being able to breath. You will be surprised at how much further you will be able to go in no time. But whatever you do, don't give up. It will ge easier.

I am at a similar height/weight. i just can't do yoga anymore. Like you said - you squish everything and can't breathe. Since yoga is about breathing it just doesn't work. I loved it when I was lighter but it isn't made for my current body type. I walk a lot, use the stationary bike, and the elliptical. Start all of these slowly and work your way up to more time. I also love zumba. try doing a few minutes of a class and work you way up to the full class. dont' give up.

Just a suggestion here, but I really think you need to check into the shoes you are wearing at work. I too stand/walk all day and yes my feet used to kill then I heard about Dansko shoes. They have literally changed my life at work. They are dressy and as an added bonus for us vertically challenged people of the world they add a little height. All in all when I have to do my 12 hr days with very little time sitting they save my life and my back. Good luck!! and Keep up the good work.

I had the same problem 40lbs ago, especially since I have a G-cup. I just didn't do them, to be honest. I did wall push-ups and walked on my breaks at work, and would do the cardio videos on Spark. I also bought dumb bells and would do squats and other exercises while watching TV.

Now that I am a bit lighter, I can get down and do more exercises, and I am glad I modified it. Sure, walking on work breaks wasn't the most fun for me (I stand and walk all day, too), but it helped. If I had forced myself to do exercises that were uncomfortable I would have given up, as I have done many times before.

Search here and Google for seated cardio. That might be something you can do as well.

I have talked to my GI Dr and heart Dr about this, as its tough to do the socks/shoes :-( and bending over to pick up things etc..... Nothing wrong other then being "morbidly obese" :-(
I HATE the treadmill as I am on my feet ALL day long at work, as a Special Ed Teacher/Para with virtually no break to ever sit down and my feet KILL me by mid day, must less end of the day!!!! LAST thing I want to do is be on my feet even more. One reason I try to enjoy the yoga as its not hard on the feet really.

The best thing for you right now is to talk to your doctor and ask him what you are physically capable of without working yourself especially since its hard for you to breathe. Right now I'd take it mostly to the treadmill and try walking off the pounds while really focusing on your diet til you're to the point that its not difficult for you to breath when you bend over.

Biggest thing is don't push yourself to the point you're really going to damage yourself. It's naturally for some people to feel out of breath at times when working out but difficulty breathing is something you don't take softly.

Don't do it. If it's uncomfortable or physically difficult, leave it and try again on a month. What can you do? Walk? Wall push-ups? Do what you can, get your dot on order, lose a few pounds the. Go back to trying those things.

I am short and very heavy, I am trying to work out, a variety of things, crunches on my stability ball, beginners yoga on stability ball, doing some yoga from Wii Fit etc... everything I try to do, either it seems my inner-eds are so squished, even just bending forward at the waist to hang and stretch back I can NOT breath.

I have major issues with either muscle spasms (already on presc. potassium & I drink a TON of water, always have) or unable to breath.

HOW do you do it when short and very heavy, lungs and such are so darn squished up you can't breath!
