My favorite go to daily food anymore are tacos. I put a couple sprays of I can't believe it is not butter on corn tortillas and warm them up in a pan until soften and a couple ounces of asada or chicken. Little cilantro and salsa or lemon juice. Filling and tasty and low cal and low fat.

I just made healthy goolash today and its flavor was almost the same as the regular kind I make. This recipe has two servings and is under 280 cal (estimation) per serving. I didn't use the garlic, but mine still tasted good.

6 baby carrots shredded (I used a cheese grater)
2 tbsp chopped red pepper
3 tbsp chopped onion
2 cloves garlic
1 c chopped tomatoes
2 tbsp ketchup
4 oz ground turkey
2/3 c dry whole wheat penne pasta (or whole wheat pasta of your choice)
Salt and pepper to taste

Put ground turkey, carrots, red pepper, onions, and garlic into a frying pan. Cook together until turkey is done (white all the way through). Add the tomatoes and reduce (around 20 mins) or until liquid from tomatoes is evaporated. Add cooked penne noodles, then mix in the ketchup and serve.

I bought the Spark cookbook from here. It has a lot of great ideas in it, plus a lot of helpful information on things to substitute to make your favorite dishes healthier. I got it on for like $10.

Another great one is a free recipe share website that includes the nutritional information on all recipes and you can search by diet, genre, comfort, gluten free, dairy free, etc.

One thing I like to do is take my favorite unhealthy recipes to see if I can make them healthy. Like macaroni and cheese for example. Do you have any favorite dishes you like to eat but aren't exactly healthy?

I second Eating Well (although their recipes tend to be too high-calorie for me and I have to do additional adjusting.) I also really love Cooking Light-- the older issues of the magazine were better IMO, and also more likely to be available for checkout from your public library. Their recipes tend to look kind of high calorie, but that's because the servings are huge. I like magazines with lots of attractive pictures more than cookbooks because I'm more likely to make a recipe if I see the finished product.

I echo Skinnytaste and add Love Eatingwell - the almond crusted chicken fingers, turkey meat loafs, creamy Cajun chicken pasta, maple mustard pork and others are staples around here.

Another Sparker led me to look at this site and it has all kinds of good, tasty, "non-diet-food" ideas.

I tend to use just regular recipe sites, and then adjust the recipes to make them "healthier" (i.e. where it calls for sauteeing in 2tbsp olive oil, I'll use 1 tsp... turns out just as good). For example, I get some really good ideas from "The Italian Dish" - which trust me is NOT a "diet site" - but for example this recipe
is really easy to adjust (the olive oil can be halved, or less, NO PROBLEM... and it's easy to adjust the portion size by reducing the amount of pasta). Or this last-minute dinner idea (hidden at the end of a long restaurant review)
just happens to be naturally low in fat/calories, just adjust the amount of pasta.

The SparkRecipes site, I find myself using it a lot lately too. I like plunking the "ingredients i have on hand" to the search bar and seeing what comes up. Even when I have seemingly unrelated ingredients, something interesting always comes up. For example, "sweet potato mango" = six or seven different ideas (I'll be making the salad with quinoa later this week actually)

Don't be discouraged by "low cal recipes" - if they are bland and boring - TOSS! Food is wonderful and can be creative and interesting and DELICIOUS while still being "good for you" and fitting into your eating plan!

Hi there

I personally don't have any recipes to share, but if you go on sparkpeople's recipe site,, there are a LOT of tasty recipes on there. Some are low fat, some are moderate, but you can search by different contents, depending on what you are looking for. I honestly can't name some off the top of my head but I have tried some and it is definitely worth checking out.

I'm all for eating healthy and losing weight, but so many diet recipes just taste so blah. Anyone have any tasty, healthy recipes or websites to go. I also enjoy cooking. Thanks
