By all means, continue with your own way of counting water that works best for you. I just wanted to let the members know that they do not have to push an "extra cup" of water for every cup of coffee/tea consumed.

I'll stick to what I am doing. :-) Old myth or not. Unless most people actually read the articles you linked they will assume they can drink coffee and soda all day and not have to drink water. Also Sparkpeople needs to change the water tracker to say fluid tracker. emoticon

Milk, juice, pop, diet drinks, tea, coffee (regular and decafe) all count as fluid/water for the body. Each type has a limit regarding health. This SP article gives more on this topic. For diet drinks---no more than 32 ounces daily.

And, the diurectic effect of regular tea and coffee is "so minimal" that they also count as fluid. There is no need to drink an extra glass of water when you have tea or coffee. This is an old myth.

I drink a lot of the Hawaiian Punch sugar free packets. There are a lot of different flavors, and only 5-10 calories a piece.

Every time I ever tried to quit Dr. Pepper, I would get these massive headaches. At first I thought that they were from withdraws from caffeine. However this last time that I quit drinking them I never got a headache. What was the difference? Flavored beverages, more specific the zero calorie, artificial flavored drink packets that go in water. The artificial sweeteners such as sweet-n-low and splenda! They were triggering migraines (which I suffer from any way but this was indeed a trigger). That was the difference this time, I didn"t put it together until one day I was thinking about it and it was like "wow". So there it is, it may seem crazy but true. Goodbye addiction and hello better habits! And no more diet drinks!

In my opinion Crystal Light I think would count but not everything would. But remember, coffee is dehydrating so you should drink an additional 8 oz, of water for every cup of coffee you drink. Also things like diet soda would not count. emoticon

Everything you drink counts toward the goal. Doesn't matter if it has flavor, color, sweetener, carbonation or all counts.

I have such a hard time drinking my daily water requirement. I was wondering if I drink Crystal Light will that still count? Or is that bad?
