The fitbit isn't designed to tell you just what you burn when you exercise. This is what you burn with just normal living day to day. Depending what time it was when you set it up, you may have done it later in the evening. So it is telling you on average what you burned just breathing and living through the day.
as you exercise, the calories burned will go up on the website. it takes your peaks of high movement and determines that is when you are working out so you will see a bar graph toward the bottom of the fitbit page. My fitbit report has two spikes-- One around 12:00 when i take a walk or do stairs at work and another when I do my higher intensity exercising.

I have found that what Fitbit tells me to do and SP are very similar.

I am not too sure how the fitbit works, but that figure you may be seeing is your basal (resting) metabolic rate. You may want to post this on the fitbit SparkTeam to see if someone there can help you out.

Hey all! I am getting my fitbit through amazon and it should arrive tomorrow. I have learned that you can set up a fitbit profile on even if you don't have an actual fitbit device. I figured I'd go ahead and set it up so I don't have to do it tomorrow when I get it, but when I typed in my height and weight it told me I burned 1,400 calories already... I then set up a new account using a different email and after putting in the same information it claimed I had burned 1,600 calories.... are they just showing me what it would look like if I burned calories?! It makes me question its accuracy and I don't even have the device yet! I seriously am laying on the couch with only my fingers typing....
