You might want to monitor your calcium intake. The Womens Health Study showed that women who took in 1800 to 2400 mg of calcium in the 2 vweeks prior to their periods had less cramping, fluid retention and other PMS symptoms then women who took in less calcuim.

We tried this at work. 4 of the 5 of us who did this felt better with ewer symptoms.

Same thing happened to me this month. I had been working out really hard and eating clean. When I weighed, my weight was exactly the same! I just started back, so you now how those first few weeks should reflect a good weight loss. I was sooo sad. But I weighed again a few days after my "friend" left, and I lost 4 pounds! I am going to skip weighing that time of month from now on.

since you know that it is most likely bloating...why stress.
consider the results long term and measure your progress accordingly.
You would not expect the scale to register the same weight if you were holding a water balloon in your hand...why would it show the same weight if it's inside your body.

5-7lbs?! wow I didn't realise it would be that much!!! Not weighing myself might be helpful. I tend to focus on weight because I'm weighed by the doctor every 6 months so I want to lose a decent amount by the time I go back again in 5 months time. I have been steadily losing a little bit each time for the past couple of years while at uni, but as I have just finished I really want to start focusing on it properly and lose more. Perhaps I should just relax about it during this week, still workout and try to eat well but not worry about what I actually weigh. Thanks for the advice.

What you're experiencing really IS perfectly normal. I can easily gain and lose as much as 5-7 pounds during the week of my cycle ! No, the bloating is no fun. But, try to remember this is a temporary gain due to water retention, nothing more. Any "gain" will pass in a few days. I don't let this type of gain bother me any more because once again, I know it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days.

My advice ? If you tie your emotions to the scale, then don't weigh yourself during your cycle. Wait til your cycle has passed. Don't tie your self worth to a number that stares at you from between your toes in the morning. As you lose weight, you're going to see many ups and downs AND that's perfectly normal.

There really is more to good health than a number that stares at us from between our toes in the morning. Don't make yourself miserable worrying over what the scale says for one week during the month. The fact is, this is going to happen every single month until you hit menopause. And then the real fun begins. eh-hem... in short, don't worry !

Hi ladies, I've been really good this week with getting my exercise in and I've been eating much, much better too and I've only lost a few ounces. It is my lady problem week so I'm hoping that it's because I'm bloated. But I was really hoping to get a pound off despite being bloated as I have been working really hard. Does anyone else feel like they can't trust the scale on their lady week? And does it really effect your results that much? Obviously I'm going to weigh again once it's gone to see whether or not I have lost but at the moment I feel like I haven't lost anything despite my hard work emoticon
