I was seriously about to say the same thing! I love this site already and I've only been on it for one day. I love the encouragement and getting to see other people who are in the same boat as me because it lets me know I'm not alone. Thanks everyone for making my day! I hope to do the same for you someday!!

I was feeling the same yesterday. Totally discouraged. But after posting my woes, I received so many positive comments from other members. Don't beat yourself up! It's a process.
Stay with it and think of how happy you'll be the next time you get on the scale.
You can beat the scale! emoticon

our bodies do strange things. You are more than a # on the scales. Go get this. Do not let this # define you..........YOU CAN DO THIS.........! (((HUGS)))

I too hate when that happens. It can spoil your whole day, but don't let it; you are the one in charge. You have already received great advice from others; the only thing I would add is to check your sodium intake if you don't already do that. That could be a reason for retaining water.

I had the same thing yesterday. Weighed myself after workout and was 5 lbs over my start weight of a week ago. Some of the problem was that the scales were off by 25. lbs when we checked them, I just hope that the rest was water retention after my workout!
Stay with it and everything will work out fine.

That's exactly the mindset we have to keep. No single human being is perfect. We are going to have awful days and great days, not so great weeks, and pretty amazing weeks. For example, I think over the last two weeks, I have gone over my max recommended calories at least half the time. I've stayed active, which I have not in the past-so there is progress. I am also getting more than 5 servings of vegetables most days, and I don't indulge in junk as much.
That's progress.
List the things you've done right, and the things that you want to do better, and tackle it a little bit at a time.
No one will get this right 100% of the time. Chin up.

I would say it's water weight. I had that happen a few times. Keep doing what your doing and I bet it will be gone in a few days.

I always weight more after a workout - which seems crazy because with all that sweat dripping off me you'd think at least something would be gone! Don't get discouraged. Just keep doing those right things and good things will eventually happen. If you quit, they never will! You can do this!!! emoticon

Thank you so much! I like progress-not perfection. That's a good motto to go by!

It is NOTHING but water weight. There is no way possible that you could have gained that much in two days. If you've previously not worked out so much, and now you are, it is so very common to retain water like that. I completely and utterly discouraging that can be, but please believe me that if you keep doing the right thing, you will see the results in how your clothes fit before the number on the scale.
Make sure you're drinking enough water. Besides the usual 8-10 8ounce cups, for every 10-15 lbs overweight you are you should have an extra 8 ounces. It's hard at first, but once you get used to it, it's easy. I suggest a sports bottle, if you don't have one already.
I've put on as much as 24lbs of water weight from too much sodium combined with A.F. It's extremely uncomfortable.
But don't get discouraged, Hon. Also, if you have a bad day-don't get discouraged. Progress-not perfection.

I find when I weigh myself AFTER a workout I actually weigh more...I think it has to do with muscles filling with fluid. I like to weigh once a week FIRST thing in the morning : ) Same time, same day of the week. I know it can be discouraging. I weigh myself on Friday's (tomorrow) and I know I am retaining water right now so even though I had a good week with food and exercise the number on the scale is probably not going to be in my favor. I am just trying to prepare for it and not let it get me down. Next week will be better : ) Good luck!!

Could it almost be time for that TOM? One month I gained 11 pounds. It was gone in a couple days

I would make sure your scales are on a flat steady surface. If I put the scales on my tile I get one weight, but if the scales are on the hardwood floor I get a completely different weight. It can vary sometimes by almost 5 pounds. This could be part of why your weight is so different.

I would be discouraged, too. Maybe take a closer look at your food intake, seemingly healthy foods and/or portion suggestions may not always be so accurate or healthy (darn carbs!).

Always see the day as a new day to get on track!

Hello, people of Spark! Anyone else having a hard time this morning? I did my morning workout this morning and was feeling good...until I stepped on the scale and it was ELEVEN pounds heavier than two days ago. I know you should only weigh once a week and I know your weight fluctuates. BUT ELEVEN POUNDS? That's too much, right? How much does your weight fluctuate? Could my scale be broken? Now I'm just feeling really discouraged and don't want this to ruin my day. Help?
