Does your gym offer drop in fitness classes? Maybe you could try one of them. They can be a lot of fun and a great way to meet people. If you go, let the instructor know you are new and then he/she can offer alternatives to different moves.

last summer i took a hula hoop class it was so much fun, I did it with my daughter.

If you want to do something every day, you can. How about taking a daily 30 minute walk along with 2-3 workouts at the gym. walking is wonderful cardiovascular exercise. There are members who will tell you how they lost 100+ pounds just by walking and watching what they ate.

I walk everywhere. Walking is something you could do every day as part of your healthy lifestyle. How much walking should you do ? Same thing as I mentioned earlier, start slowly. If you're not used to walking for an hour a day, you start with 15-30 minutes. You need to give your body time to adapt to the changes you're making.

I know you're feeling really gung ho and want to get at it, but consider your past. Look at how many times you've started/stopped and restarted an exercise routine. If you want to stick with it this time, you have to think differently. You have to stop thinking diet and thinking lifestyle change. that won't be easy.

This is why SP encourages all its members to start with simple changes first. take baby steps literally and figuratively.

it took me a long time (a year or 2) to work up to exercising 5-6 days a week. I started off with 2 days a week.

I do like to play badminton maybe I should do some of that too on my off gym days

also I don't do the same cardio day I'll do treadmill, one day elliptical, one day bike

Thanks for the advice ARCHIMEDESII :D that's exactly what I want to know....

I just don't want to not go one day and then procrastinate my work out then eventually not go

but I guess slow and steady wins the race! :P

my question is, should I pace myself like 3 times a week instead of 5 or do 5 days a week?

like I said I feel lazy and tired but push myself anyways to go, once I do cardio I feel I can carry on and do the machines so I do.

I'm also asking for motivational purposes too, to make sure I don't loose focus

If you were sedentary for a long time, going to the gym for an hour workout five days a week may be just a little too ambitious. A person should slowly ease into a program so that they don't end up injured, fatigued or burned out.

If you have a record of quitting exercise after a few weeks, it could just be you're trying to do too much too soon. Instead of working out for 5 days a week, why not start with 2-3 days ? Give your body time to adapt to the new routine. Over the next few weeks and months, you can add more workouts until you do feel comfortable working out 5 days a week.

Because what happens when you get injured ? What happens when you get bored ? What happens when you get fatigued ? You stop exercising. Remember, exercise isn't just about burning X calories in Y time. If you want to remain healthy for your entire life, you have to be ready to be active your entire life. That means what ever you do, should be something you enjoy. Because when we enjoy doing something, we look forward to doing that something each and every day.

Should we take recovery days ? Definitely ! You don't have to kill yourself in the gym to be healthy.

You need to find the right balance of nutrition and exercise so that you don't end up in the yo yo dieting cycle. That does take time.

My advice ?

Slowly ease into a regular routine so that you don't end up quitting later.

I think it is wise to start small and build up and also to be creative and find other ways to be active besides the gym. The best exercise is the one you enjoy.

Hi Spark People!

I am just starting back at the gym and I'll admit I'm not in the best shape...this is my second week going ..... my question is, I want to be able to go to the gym 5 days a week for at least 1 hr ......(today is going to be day 4) I want to make sure this sticks and don't want to go gung ho then burn out....

I am super lazy but trying to push through that.....when I don't feel like going I go anyways and push myself out of that excuse/lazy state and I hate cardio so I do that for 20 mins get it over and done with and then I feel like I can do more so then I do and I mean like machines, sit ups and then sauna after....

there is some debate regarding resting which I know is important, and to keep going ....I was just wondering what your thoughts were.
