I read someone that it's actually better for you to split up the work out into 2-3 or more sessions because you have to get your heart rate up 2-3 or more times a day and it helps with metabolism.

In my opinion, as long as you are exercising you do what works best for you. It is okay to break up your workout throughout the day but to truly facilitate weight loss you need to have a least 30 minutes of uninterrupted cardio where your heart rate is at target range.

I agree with the other posters - whatever works best for you!

Personally, I prefer splitting it up so that I don't get too wiped out doing one or the other!

I tend to lose interest if it's all spread out, so I have to do most of it in one big chunk just to make sure I do it.

It's actually going to be slightly more effective to split them up.

When you do cardio and ST together, whichever you do second suffers from lowered capacity due to the first. If you lift first, you're tired and don't get as good cardio as you would get fresh. If you cardio first, you're again tired and more at risk of injury when lifting.

So splitting them up means that neither will really suffer from the other having been done just immediately before - you'll get good quality in both.

(But the difference is minimal and if someone can only find time to do them together, that's okay too).

It's whatever works for your schedule. I worked out some this morning and I'm going to go do my swimming after work. Don't have enough time in the morning for swimming because the gym doesn't open early enough.

I've heard that splitting it up works well. It depends on your schedule. Whatever is best for you!

I have 20 minutes of strength training and 40 minutes in cardio planned for the day. Is it okay to split the exercise up? Or will it be more effective if I do it all at once?
